The Clinical Educator is a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Nurse who combines clinical expertise and a passion for excellent patient care into his or her practice.

The Clinical Educator promotes a positive work environment by being visible and available to all levels of staff. The Clinical Educator works collaboratively with Clinical Managers in maintaining productivity and supporting hospital initiatives.


Clinical Educators assist in identifying staff development needs and gaps in professional practice with an emphasis on evidence based practice, education and ongoing evaluation and sustainability.

A focus on staff development, quality practices and educational programming across the service areas to enhance care delivery is required.

This role will advance professional practice through leadership, learning and development and assisting staff in the integration of best practices in their daily work.


The Clinical Educator - Clinical Coach, functions as a clinical educator with a key focus of supporting new hires new graduates and front line nursing staff in a coaching/mentorship role.

This role will be instrumental in retention of staff by identifying knowledge gaps, understanding educational needs and obtaining feedback to better support nursing resources on an ongoing basis.

Key to this success is supporting the orientation program providing timely regular touch points with new hires, new graduates, and students to help them feel supported with appropriate education and resources on an ongoing basis especially in their first year of hire.


HOURS:

Must be available for all tours assigned by the hospital.


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:


  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO);
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BScN) required, Master's degree in Nursing (MScN) or related field preferred;
  • 10 years' recent clinical nursing experience required;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of adult education experience required;
  • Certificate in adult education preferred;
  • Actively involved in professional organizations associated with professional nursing practice, such as Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO), Canadian Nurses Association (CNA). Membership in RNAO required;
  • Demonstrated leadership and personal drive to achieve results, and the ability to focus one's attention on accomplishing key objectives and positive outcomes for oneself and one's team;
  • Champions a culture of patient safety in the program, aligned with corporate priority;
  • Ensures service practices across the program comply with professional standards
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated thoroughness and attention to detail;
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way;
  • Ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships;
  • Knowledge and proficiency in current, evidencebased methods and practices in area of nursing expertise;
  • Knowledge and proficiency to develop and conduct educational opportunities/programs/curriculum for learners, and experience in evaluation of learning activities specific to individual performance and an understanding of adult learning principles;
  • Proficient in the use of computer hardware and software (Microsoft Suite, CERNER, EPR, etc.);
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time effectively and be flexible in an active work environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis with an excellent performance record;
  • Demonstrates strong emotional intelligence and selfreflection.
  • Acceptable performance and attendance record.
