    The Terraces Memory Residence has an opportunity for a

    RECREATIONIST, PART TIME

    28 BI-Weekly Hours – Day-Evening, including alternate weekends (shifts may be subject to change)

    OPSEU 595 Hourly Pay Rate: $ $30.74

    The Possibilities Recreationist will be an ambassador to Baycrest's unique evidence-based memory care model, Possibilities by BaycrestTM model. The successful candidate will support the Possibilities by BaycrestTM model through embodying the philosophy of care and principles, while bringing the key commitments under the model to life. Reporting to the Program Director, the Recreationist will be part of the team that executes on individualized care plans and Possibilities Plans for the residents living in the new Terraces Memory Residence. The Recreationist works with each resident and family to achieve personal, psychological, physical and recreational goals within the Possibilities by BaycrestTM framework. The ideal candidate is well rounded with residential, geriatric, customer service and clinical care experiences working with older adults with dementia and responsive behaviours.

    Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

    • Responsible for delivering the overall Possibilities experience to residents and their families by embodying the model of care and its philosophy and values into daily practice
    • Initiates and maintains a relationship with the resident, their family and other care providers to enable trust, open communication and a care community
    • Design and lead innovative individual and group programs based on resident care and Possibility plan needs.
    • Ability and flexibility to execute spontaneous programming when resident needs arise
    • Work with Volunteers and other staff to identify and monitor resident needs.
    • Facilitate provision of intergenerational programming
    • Contribute to the multi-disciplinary Possibilities care team.
    • Coordinate services with other staff / departments.
    • Develop and maintain inventory of program supplies
    • Adhere to infection control practices, policies and procedures

    Qualifications (include but are not limited to):

    • Minimum 2 year College Diploma in Recreation or Activation or equivalent
    • Member in good standing with TRO or APO
    • Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating creative recreation programming
    • Skill working with the frail and cognitively impaired older adults
    • Ability to speak a second language such as Yiddish, Hebre, Russian or Hungarian would be an asset.
    • Knowledge of community resources would be an asset
    • Computer skills and the ability to work with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Publisher
    • Experience working with individuals living with dementia in residential settings
    • Experience working with individuals with responsive behaviours
    • Ability to work independently and as a part of the interdisciplinary team, and effectively manage challenging situations
    • Certificate in U-First and/or Alzheimer Society for Dementia Care Training Program (DCTP) preferred
    • Certificate in Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) is preferred.
    • Certificate in Montessori Activities for Dementia is preferred.
