Personal Support Worker for a Male with Diverse Abilities
Personal Support Worker - Full-time
Location - Kamloops, BC
Reports to - Service Coordinator
Overall Responsibility:
Providing 24-hour in-home, personalized support to a male with a diverse abilities living in a downtown apartment.
Employment Type:
Full-Time, 24-hour shifts; 3 days on, 3 days off
24-hour Shifts:This position is considered a "Live-In" position under the BC Employment Standards Act. Support Workers are not expected to be awake throughout the entire shift and are provided a staff room/bed to sleep in. However, if the individual required assistance overnight, the support worker would be expected to provide essential support when needed.
Compensation:
TOCSC offers competitive wages and benefits, covers meals during shifts and vehicle use is reimbursed tax-free on a monthly basis based on mileage.
TOCSC also offers training and development opportunities for its employees.Other Perks:
Down time throughout the day when the individual is occupied with his own activities, there is time for staff to relax or do their own hobbies onsite (read a book, exercise, cook/bake, etc.).
Person specific training is provided; however, applicants must be comfortable providing full personal care to adults, and be able to support someone who communicates through challenging behaviours.
Pay and Benefits:
- $300-$320/day
- Meals provided during work hours, mileage is reimbursed upon submission
- Employee Assistance Program upon completion of training, Municipal Pension Plan and benefits upon completion of probationary period
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Aid with activities of daily living, medication administration and personal care as needed
- Assist the individual to maintain the household, including food preparation and housekeeping
- Support individual to achieve their goals and pursue their leisure activities
- Empower the individual's abilities while promoting their independence and socially valued roles
Skills:
- Ability to work independently
- Competent communication and decisionmaking
- Capable of providing personal care
- Willingness to adapt and learn
Requirements:
- Valid First Aid Certificate
Can be obtained during training period: - Clear Criminal Record check *Processed within our office
- Medical clearance form (completed by physician within first month of employment)
- TB test (to be completed within first month of employment)
- Valid Driver's License and Vehicle
- Safe driving history
Must be able to work 24-hour shift rotation for a minimum of one year_

$300.00-$320.00 per day
