What:

Cowichan Green Community (CGC) is looking for a trained and experienced Cook to join our Kitchen team.

CGC Kitchen is a fast paced BC FoodSafe Certified facility that prides itself in producing quality meals for the community that are focused on providing nourishment to the most vulnerable members of our community.


Who:

CGC is a non-profit organization that has been focusing on environmental sustainability in the Cowichan Region since March 2004.

CGC's mandate is to improve food security by developing strong relationships with local food producers, increasing capacity for local food production (both urban and rural), and empowering people with the knowledge, skills and resources they need to feed their community.

When:

CGC is hiring immediately for a full time cook position.


Shifts Hours
Kitchen operation is Monday to Saturday 8am to 5pm.

The Cook's position requires performing 7 1/2 hour shifts with mandatory breaks as per BC Labour Law according to the shift schedule posted by the Kitchen Manager.


Wage:
$22.00/hr


Duties:


  • Prepare, cook, and plate culinary meals as per the Kitchen Manager/Head Chef's instructions
  • Ensure BC FoodSafe is followed for product handling, equipment handling and personal hygiene at all times
  • Ensure Food Safe Plan/Sanitation Plan/OHS Plans are followed at all times
  • Oversee kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Chef/Kitchen Manager
  • Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment including all safety logs
  • Set up the daily line and ensure products are pulled as per the Head Chef's instructions
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean and sanitized before the shift starts
  • Assist in cleaning kitchen and work area after each use and ensure the hot line is clean during the shift
  • Follow the menus/recipes, the assigned size of food portions, and ensure the orders are sent out as per the daily meal plan
  • Ensure handling of allergens and food sensitivities/allergies is according to the BC FoodSafe Guidelines
  • Work in harmony with all kitchen staff, remain punctual and professional at all times
  • Be able to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods of time

Experience and Skills:


  • Proven experience of two years as a line cook in a fastpaced restaurant in Canada
  • Demonstrated record of remaining clam under pressure and withstanding the rigors of a busy kitchen
  • BC FoodSafe1 Certification along with demonstrated experience of strong work ethics
  • Valid BC Class-V driving license, with an access to a reliable vehicle
  • Be able to provide two references from relevant employers within the past three years
  • Be able to take on emergency shifts if required from time to time

Salary:
$22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week


Flexible Language Requirement:

  • French not required

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
