The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year.

With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves.

The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Production Geologist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7 schedule, day shift rotation.

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Production Geologist

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley.

Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Production Geologist is responsible for day-to-day short term mine geology tasks and determining the flow of material from the mine to the mill, as well as providing ore control boundaries to the mine planners.

Responsibilities

Inspect blast hole cuttings,
Ensures that ore control staking is correct,
Performs field mapping of lithological boundaries and sampling of active faces,
Provides guidance to the blasthole sampling team,
Compile and validate assay data from blastholes and perform the necessary QAQC checks,
Supports diamond and RC drilling activities, monitor drilling progress, and interpret drill chips,
Compiles mapping and assay information in 3-D software and correlates it with existing models,
Assist with ore feed strategies to the primary crusher to provide optimal grade ore to the mill,
Prepares weekly and monthly reports as required,
Performs weekly and monthly reconciliation for model performance and impacts on grade,
Blast movement monitoring and blast design inputs, including pre and post blast drone flights,
Ensure ML/ARD management principals are followed, and correct litho-geochemical zones are identified,
Performs any other responsibilities related to the role or as assigned by the department head.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or equivalent,
2-5 years of experience working as a geologist in a mining environment,
Certified Professional Geologist designation and registered with EGBC (or eligible for registration),
Experience in porphyry copper-gold deposit geology would be considered an asset,
Familiarity with logging diamond core and RC chips is considered an asset,
Working knowledge of Geovia Surpac 3D software or similar industry standard software is considered an asset,
Acquire database experience is an asset,
Proficiency with Google Suite, Word and Excel required,
Valid driver's license.

Have high regard for personal safety and the safety of company property and employees,
Ability to work in and with cross-functional teams,
Ability to collaborate with other support groups,
Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

Working Conditions

Must be eligible to work in Canada,
Work closely with other Engineering team members and collaborate closely,
Be required to perform computer-based functions combined with field work daily,
Work requires the employee to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE),
Frequent exposure to changing weather conditions,

Work requires the employee to perform physical tasks like walking on uneven surfaces, standing for periods of time and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Salary Range

$96,750 - $107,500.00 / Annum.
