    Title of Course

    VISA 1Q99 Contemporary Issues in the History of Western Art
    Analysis of key issues in the history of Western art, including various ways of looking at the visual past and present. Focus on the visual arts from prehistory through the early 20th century. Note: TA contract for this course will be 60 hours.

    Delivery Method SYNCH

    A fully online synchronous course is a conferencing learning environment that is delivered remotely through audio and video conferencing to provide simultaneous communications (i.e., at the same time) between an instructor at one site and students at other sites. A course is considered to be offered via synchronous conferencing if 80% or more of the content is delivered in this way. As such, a synchronous conferencing course may have occasional face-to-face meetings, a proctored exam, etc. with the remainder of the content delivered through audio and video conferencing.

    Compensation

    Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

    · Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $21.43 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, )

    · Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $33.72 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, )

    · In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant's duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

    Duties

    The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local , Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

    Qualifications

    1. Applicants must have a 4-year Honours BA degree in Visual Arts or Art History or a VISA 3-year complete with a minimum of 80% achieved in the course; and

    2. Applicants must have a minimum of three full courses in art history and/or visual culture with at least an 80% average in those courses; and
    applicants must be experienced in using technology for teaching, especially web-based applications such as Brightspace, Sakai, blogs or Moodle required.

    3. Applicants must be at least third- or fourth-year students currently enrolled in a DEGREE, or who have completed a DEGREE or equivalent.
    4. The successful applicant must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students, be punctual in attending classes, and be able to meet appropriate deadlines.
