Unit/Project Description:


The Student Success Centre (SSC) | Student Affairs serves an integral, central role in the development and provision of innovative programs and services to students in the areas of First-Year Experience (including outreach, access, transition, and orientation, financial education and support, and the Archway Program, the full-year First-Year Mentorship Program); Academic & Writing Skills Development; Career Counselling, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Experiential Learning; International Student Services (ISS) and Global Experience; Spiritual Care and Learning; Leadership Development; and Student Community Relations.

The Student Success Centre works in strong collaboration with Student Affairs, Faculty, and University partners, and with external community partners through the Office of Community Engagement (OCE).

The vision for the SSC is for all students and alumni to thrive and realize their academic, professional and personal aspirations.

The McMaster University Institutional Priorities and Strategic Framework, as set forth by University President David Farrar, highlights the key priority of advancing and supporting innovation in teaching and learning.

The Student Success Centre, within Student Affairs, undertakes a lead role in the development of a holistic student experience, beginning in the first year and extending beyond the classroom, which fundamentally supports the transformative learning of students.

This personalized, engaging, and holistic student experience is intended to promote personal growth, support health, self-efficacy, and well-being, and enhance a sense of belonging, inclusive community, and connectedness of all students within the McMaster University community.


Job Summary:


The Global Experience Coordinator will generate and administer a range of opportunities abroad, including exchange programs, study, co-op and internship placements, service-learning opportunities, course-based field trips, and other learning opportunities.

Responsible for the strengthening and expansion of McMaster's international activities through cultivating global employer and community-based relationships, and promoting the benefit of global experiences to McMaster students.


Purpose and Key Functions:


  • Develop and administer a wide range of international experiential learning opportunities.
  • Develop employer development plans to provide a broad range of opportunities, ensuring employment objectives and target demographics are clearly defined.
  • Develop, coordinate, market, deliver, and evaluate studentcentered support programs and services that encourage and enable students to internationalize their degrees.
  • Serve as the initial central coordinating contact for domestic and international students participating in global experiential learning and employment programs.
  • Create, update and maintain a database of international contacts to support a variety of activities such as querying past activities, corresponding with and tracking leads and new partners.
  • Identify, develop, and cultivate international employer relationships in the business and alumni community.
  • Collaborate and consult with other units on campus and externally to facilitate and promote successful opportunities for students abroad.
  • Process student mobility paperwork accurately and efficiently, including the review, approval, and reporting of all records; collection and analysis of participation statistics; and the maintenance of confidential files.
  • Coordinate unitwide responsibilities, special events, and special projects, including but not limited to study abroad fairs, information sessions, predeparture and reentry programs, overseeing registration processes; booking venues, catering, and audiovisual needs; and ensuring the smooth functioning of events.
  • Conduct research related to the monitoring and enhancement of international mobility and global experiential learning initiatives to determine the optimal methods of evaluating the effectiveness of the initiatives; and to ascertain and recommend the most effective enhancements.
  • Prepare and present annual reports on research results and tracking to guide global experiential learning and employmentrelated decisions.
  • Consult on the approval of international volunteer and internship opportunities for McMaster students and other campus stakeholders.
  • Aid in the development of promotional materials, publicity, and marketing of international experience programs and opportunities across campus.
  • Create, administer, and deliver regular predeparture and reentry programs for outbound students, including monitoring risk management protocols.
