Position Title

  • Student Connect Centre Advisor, Training and Systems
    Position Summary
  • Red Deer Polytechnic invites you to join our Student Connect Centre team. The Student Connect Centre Advisor, Training and Systems is a termcertain position until August 2023 that focuses on advising students. We offer on the job training and an onboarding process to help you orientate to this position.
  • The Student Connect Centre Advisor, Training and Systems supports and manages client relationships with prospective, new, and current students through liaison with schools and programs; developing curriculum to deliver student selfdirected academic advising utilizing learning management tools; providing analysis of recruiting and conversion tactics to measure effectiveness; acting as the Student Connect Centre (SCC) liaison for the program audit system; and, providing training to SCC staff on related systems. In addition, the position maintains systems to capture leads and measure conversion rates; provides recommendations for growing enrolment through lead generation, stewardship, and recruitment; and supports the conversion of applicants to registrants.
  • The position is part of a collaborative team that builds and improves the processes attracting learners to RDP supporting them to make informed decisions with the aim of becoming selfdirected as they plan their pathway from education to career. Using a learnercentered approach this position will also recruit prospective students and advise current students to ensure they have the appropriate supports and information to successfully achieve their educational goals. The role requires the ability to solve complex problems, make recommendations, and offer solutions to support strategic enrolment management targets while exercising independent judgment and maintaining confidentiality. This position requires a high degree of flexibility, creativity, initiative, and collaboration.
    Position Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Student Academic Advising and Support

  • Design and maintain academic advising curriculum.
  • Use Blackboard (LMS) to deliver academic advising curriculum.
  • Create or support and manage client relationship management system(s).
  • Train SCC Advisors on the use of systems.
  • Develops online recruiting resources including virtual booths for recruiting events.

Academic Programs:


  • Deliver academic program advising to current and prospective students.
  • Educate students about career and academic planning providing accurate academic program planning information based on the student's identified pathway.
  • Maintain uptodate academic program planning information in systems and training materials related to student registration and student selfdirected academic advising.
  • Provide accurate information to prospective and current students related to transfer credit, pathways, and prior learning assessment.
  • Assist with management of program and course enrolment.

General Advising and Retention

  • Maintain knowledge of RDP policies and procedures contributing recommendations to policy and procedure revisions.
  • Refer students to other services and resources as necessary.
  • Collect and record prospective and current student information ensuring compliance with FOIPP and CASL requirements using Banner, Grad Tracker, and Client Relationship information systems.
  • Deliver training to students (Financial Literacy, Advising Tutorial, Grad Tracker)
  • Support events and initiatives including New Student Orientation, Campus tours, Open House, and Convocation.
  • Market and promote all programs/courses including work integrated learning and cocurricular opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of University in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent, in Liberal Arts, Science, or Business
years relevant experience

  • Experience in the postsecondary sector
  • Student advising and counseling experience
  • Superior communication skills including the ability to deliver presentations (both written and verbal)
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to source, compile, and interpret data for presentation to others
  • Must be able to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a high volume work environment
  • Must be willing to work independently and collaborate with others to achieve goals and objectives
  • Proficiency with technology and information systems such as Banner, Degree Audit, Blackboard, and Constituent Re
