    Description

    Senior Visual Effects Artist (Effects TD)

    This role is considered Hybrid, which means the employee will work 2-3 days onsite at a Company designated location and occasionally from home.

    The Senior Visual Effects Artist (Effects TD) generates FX animation, procedural simulation, dynamic simulation, particle and fluid systems for feature film visual effects. They also complete lighting, rendering and moderate-level compositing of complex shots with mentorship from their supervisors.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and build FX animation, procedural simulation, dynamic simulation, particle and fluid systems that meet the project's requirements.
    • Apply simple lighting and composition techniques to present work in context, ensuring consistency across all shots.
    • Collaborate with other departments, handing off elements to comp and rendering teams to facilitate a seamless workflow.
    • Manage shot data, optimizing production workflows by overseeing renders, downstream data, and cleanup processes.
    • Provide accurate time estimates for shotwork, maintaining or exceeding consistent productivity levels while meeting deadlines.
    • Participate as a team member in achieving aesthetic solutions, providing feedback to peers during regular dailies sessions.
    • Mentor junior FX artists, sharing knowledge and expertise to help them grow professionally.

    Requirements

    • At least three years of relevant professional VFX experience and a college diploma or higher in computer graphics, fine arts, design, photography, or related fields; OR five years of experience in lieu of education.
    • Demonstrates exceptional aesthetic judgment and a keen eye for detail.
    • Exhibits strong teamwork and interdisciplinary thinking, fostering collaboration across departments.
    • Production pipeline experience, ensuring smooth workflows and efficient processes.
    • Strong communication and follow-through skills, guaranteeing timely completion of tasks.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, prioritizing tasks effectively.
    • Familiarity with Maya, 3DS Max, Houdini, or similar software, with a willingness to learn new proprietary tools.
    • In-depth knowledge of physics simulations, allowing for realistic and engaging visual effects.

    Nice to Have

    • Proficiency in Linux and scripting in Python, enhancing workflow efficiency.
    • Advanced simulation experience with Houdini, Maya, 3DS Max, or other software, including the ability to write expressions.

    Compensation and Benefits

    The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$96,800 to C$118,000 per year, based on a 40-hour work week. The actual base pay offered will consider internal equity and may vary depending on factors like geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A comprehensive benefits package may include medical, financial, and/or other variable pay, tailored to the level and position offered.
