    About this opportunity:

    The Marine Scheduler is responsible for the safe, compliant, and value optimized movement of all marine products throughout our domestic and international distribution markets. The scope includes ensuring continuous 24/7 operations of marine movements, while redefining trade and marketing strategies into execution of priorities and initiatives under a variety of contract types (voyage, contract of affreightment and time-chartering) and all commodities.

    Reporting to the Senior. Manager TSL Marine & Canadian Refined Products Logistics, Commercial Operations, located in Houston, the primary focus of this role is to plan and coordinate barge and vessel activity across multiple commodities to end markets, while ensuring delivery commitments are met (scope includes deliveries via pipeline, rail, and marine transport modes) and liaise with all schedulers to ensure smooth operations, avoid supply disruptions, and optimize vessel returns and utilization.

    This role can be based out of the Houston, TX or Calgary, AB office locations.

    Responsibilities:

  • Undertake voyage planning, execution and tracking to completion and align with required reporting/summaries/data entry. Monitor progress of vessels and pre-empt any issues to avoid any delays, costs, or exposure that my negatively impact Cenovus
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, contractual, and financial parameters including any applicable international or local laws, regulations, restrictions, and requirements
  • Appoint and lead Inspection, Agent, and expediting companies, while ensuring all testing and measurement is completed accurately for vessel activity
  • Handle the operations of any Cenovus chartered vessel through any port call or STS activity
  • Responsible for leading all post fixture activity, primarily negotiation and settling of demurrage and other claims (includes performance tracking of vessels, development of and supervising specific KPI's, and general operations contained within Cenovus Marine Operations Handbook (CMOH))
  • Ensure all data pertaining to scheduling, customs, claims/demurrage, and loss/gains are accurately communicated and accounted for in systems of record and that proper procedures are followed regarding handling of Bills of Lading, Letters of Indemnity, Notices of Readiness, Notes of Protest and various other cargo-related documentation
  • Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of direct experience in commodity logistics including experience in marine transportation/shipping
  • Commercial and operational understanding of North American marine commodity transportation networks and marine infrastructure; specifically, connectivity to and from the US Gulf Coast, Eastern Canada and Western Canada
  • Identify emerging marine related issues affecting Cenovus's strategic plans
  • Proficient in ETRM systems, Excel and adapts easily to other related platforms (vetting portals, voyage planning, Q88, SIRE etc.)
  • Established relationships with industry and strategic 3rd parties (brokers, shipowners, data providers, third party loading/offloading terminals, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of voyage operations, vessel/barge chartering, post fixture accounting, contract language (Charter Parties, Terminal Agreements, GTC's etc.), tariffs and regulations, with ability to create and translate into optimization opportunities
  • Knowledge of standard processes for front, middle and back-office groups at a trading organization operating under an exposure and P&L environment
