_We are seeking a self-motivated and dynamic Consumable Purchaser reporting directly to the Supply Chain Manager._


The Consumable Purchaser will be responsible for all purchasing of all consumable purchases at Vitrum Industries, and ensuring the plant is always stocked to avoid any potential downtime.

They will manage supplier communications to ensure established delivery schedules are met, negotiated material costs are maintained, and suppliers conform to Vitrum Industries standards.


Duties Include:


  • Conduct weekly audits of stock shortages to ensure uninterrupted plant operations and mitigate any downtime caused by stock or supply shortages.
  • Purchase material for both inventory and nonstock items.
  • Reduce Purchasing Costs.
  • Review incoming orders on a daily basis to ensure timely delivery.
  • Maintain standard inventory levels and keep accurate lists.
  • Prioritize orders based on their importance and urgency on a daily basis.
  • Daily communication with suppliers to establish strong customer relationships.
  • Perform regular price reviews, at least three times a month, and develop alternative supplier lists if necessary.
  • Establish and maintain a documentation process for tracking orders, which will be audited on a monthly basis.
  • Review minimum and maximum inventory levels and issue purchase orders based on daily requirements and usage.
  • Ensure accurate input of all received goods into the tracking system, aiming for a 100% accuracy rate.
  • Verify packing slips against received goods, promptly reporting any discrepancies to suppliers.
  • Fill purchase requisitions as needed.
  • Coordinate the transfer of received goods between different buildings, ensuring smooth logisitics.
  • Conduct cycle counts on consumables and update the ERP system accordingly.
  • Ensures FIFO compliance on consumption of materials.

Knowledge & Skills:


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational abilities, including effective time management and prioritization.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, specifically with MS Office.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and see tasks through to completion.
  • Strong attention to detail and comprehensive skills
  • Basic mathematical proficiency for inventory management calculations.
  • High School Diploma
  • 12 years' experience in a similar role, preferably with inventory management responsibilities.
