BASIC FUNCTION:


Reporting to Manager, Community Programs, the
Program Instructor is responsible for planning and delivering program activities designed to maximize independence, build personal empowerment, and enhance community participation for young adults living with a disability.

Working directly with participants, the Program Instructor will act as a positive role model, providing ongoing encouragement and support.

The Program Instructor must have a genuine interest in the growth, development, and provision of a safe and nurturing environment for the individuals they teach.


The Program Instructor will work collaboratively with the Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement to ensure suitable volunteers are integrated into program delivery.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Program Delivery

  • Oversee program building, planning and preparation, in collaboration with other program team members, to ensure lesson plans are developed and adapted to meet the needs of participants.
  • In collaboration with the client, create goals and individualized plans tailored to their unique needs.
  • Provide instruction, teach and facilitate sessions in virtual and in person settings.
  • Manage and support client needs within the classroom and in the community setting.
  • In collaboration with the Program Manager and Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement, coordinate and support volunteer resources for the program.
  • Promote a positive and safe space for clients, volunteers, and colleagues.

Stakeholder Engagement and Community Building

  • Build positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including service providers, families, caregivers, and clients.
  • Support and engage in program promotion internally and externally to March of Dimes Canada (MODC).
  • Attend and support MODC's communitybased events, local fundraising and awareness activities.
  • Represent MODC at community meetings, events, and conferences to promote the organization's objectives and identify potential collaboration opportunities.
  • Network and engage with community organizations, schools, service clubs, and businesses to foster partnerships which support program goals.
  • Provide practical support and referrals to programs and services offered by MODC and other partner organizations, that will help the client achieve their goals.

Training, Knowledge Development and Record Management

  • Ensure MODC's processes and procedures are followed, including those related to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Identify areas for improvement pertaining to efficiencies and implement new processes/structure/resources accordingly.
  • Responsible for identifying learning and development opportunities related to this role
  • Adapt and refine teaching practice through continuous learning and reflection, using a variety of resources.
  • Contribute to annual program plans, establishing objectives and key performance indicators that are aligned with the broader community program goals.
  • Utilize the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to capture and analyse client data, generating reports as needed.
  • Gather and maintain appropriate data on volunteers and activities completed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely reporting of program/session activities and issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A minimum of 2 years working experience with youth or adults related to program facilitation and curriculum delivery.
  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in developmental services, human or social services, education and/or recreation.
  • Experience working with the disability community, understanding of common conditions and disabilities such as Autism, Intellectual or Developmental Delay, and Down Syndrome.
  • Experience with direct supervision of volunteers and placement students.
  • Ability to modify and adapt teaching style and materials for differentiated learning styles.
  • Ability to communicate positively and effectively both in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to multitask, keep current on department activities, and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to effectively problemsolve, make recommendations and take appropriate action.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Selfmotivated with the flexibility to adapt to changing demands and deadlines to achieve results.
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office, video conferencing software and other virtual platforms
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • Driver's license is an asset as program location will change
  • Some evening work may be required

$51,744.00 per year
