Mon-Fri 8 am to 4 pm
Wage:
$20.43 per hour
Position Summary:
The Needle Response Worker is tasked with helping reduce the number of incidents citizens discover needle debris as well as providing training to community associations, businesses and citizens on safe needle disposal.
A key goal is to provide advocacy on behalf of the client and build relationships with community members and businesses to work on improving their interactions with vulnerable populations.
Descriptions of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interacts with clients in a caring, nonjudgmental manner, and provide coverage within the agency as needed
- Provide training, to community members, Peer Contractors and casual staff on procedures and protocol related the Needle Response Program.
- Supervise Peer Contractors and casual staff
- Provide education, advocacy and system navigation with other community agencies and services, including conducting community presentations
- Answering a hot line and responding to citizens reports on needles being discovered in public places
- Driving around the community, proactively searching for as well as assisting per contractors with collecting needle debris
- Assist with collecting data and keeping track of deliverables for funder
- Work with businesses and provide supplies to help them feel empowered to pick up needles on their property
Position Requirements:
- MUST High School diploma, a certificate or diploma from a postsecondary institution would be an asset.
MUST have a Class 5 (non
- GDL) license, and willing to obtain a Class 4 license
- The ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of addictions
- Demonstrated levels of literacy and communications skills sufficient for job functions
- An open, accepting attitude with the ability to read situations and respond appropriately
Work Hazards:
- Risks associated with driving, walking and lifting up to 20 pounds
- Potential of needle pricks
- Exposure to second hand smoke
- May be exposed to communicable diseases, such as but not limited to HIV, Hepatitis, TB
- Potential for violence and aggression from clients and others
