The position provides a structured environment, training and educational opportunities as it relates to research and Hematology, while allowing for autonomy.
While all research positions are term positions (renewable each year), Hematology Research is the largest clinical trials research group in Atlantic Canada and as such has a very stable flow of work allowing positions to be extended each year.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Hematology Research, and under the direction of the Research Nurse Coordinator, the Research Assistant plays an important role in the execution of a clinical trial.
The Research Assistant works closely with the Research Nurse Coordinator and Hematologist in ensuring data points are captured/entered into database; booking appointments/testing, calling patients, assisting with study administration and preparing lab kits for specimen collection.
About the Opportunity:
40% Study/Clinical Trial Administration- Completes Case Report Forms in conjunction with PI, Manager and/or Coordinator
- Processes & submits forms to Research Ethics Board (REB)
- Prepares specimens for shipment
- Administers, scores & records results for study tests
- Replies to correspondence & composes/edits letters, documents, etc
- Orders & maintains supplies
- Attends, records & distributes minutes for meetings
- Faxes, photocopies, books rooms, catering & meetings, etc
- Coordinates incoming/outgoing mail & arranges for courier services
- Processes invoices & financial payments
- Acquires signatures for regulatory documents
- Files study documents, test results, etc
- Develops/maintains methods of tracking information through databases & spreadsheets
- Enters, summarizes & analyses data using database/spreadsheets
- Archives documentation related to study, develops/maintains method of retrieval from storage
About You:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Completed or currently enrolled in post-secondary education in a Health Science and/or Science related field required
- Two years' research related experience preferred
- Medical Terminology course preferred
- Knowledge of hematological disorders is an asset
- CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) or CCRA (Certified Clinical Research Associate) an asset
- TCPS2: CORE Certification considered an asset
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification an asset
- Experience in data collection and data entry is an asset
- Proficiency with current NSHealth systems (STAR, PHS and/or LIS) an asset
- Effective communication, problem solving and decision making skills
- Ability to draft, format and edit office correspondence
- Well developed organizational, time management and daily planning skills
