Regular Full Time
***Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Services, the Communications Coordinator performs duties related to coordinating and implementing the Village's communications and public engagement strategies, activities, programs, and initiatives to enhance community participation and awareness. This position is responsible for the planning and coordination of annual Village community events. Additionally, this position will be required to provide administrative support to the Manager of Corporate Services.


CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and implement strategic communications plans.
  • Coordinate the content, design, production and dissemination of engaging communication materials, messages and advertising.
  • Field media calls, prepare responses and draft media releases.
  • Lead or collaborate on communications projects and work with inhouse or contract staff on text and layout of materials such as brochures, newsletters, annual reports, and related projects.
  • Oversee, prepare content for and keep current the Village's social media platforms and website.
  • Identify and develop content for stories and information to share with the community.
  • Prepare and execute plans and promotional details for various Village events.
  • Organize distribution of Council and Committee meeting packages and assist with meeting and minute templates.
  • Conduct research such as reviewing historic records or legislation to respond to inquires or requests for information.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating Village records including bylaws, Council and Committee resolutions and action items, and other legislative documents.
  • Other related duties as required and assigned.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to collect/research information to coordinate public relations and promotional activities.
  • Considerable experience with writing and editing for public relations, advertising, and marketing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to coordinate the design, production and dissemination of print and digital communications and administer related contracts.
  • Ability to plan and execute community events.
  • Familiarity using design templates in software such as InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Canva.
  • Proficiency with maintaining website content on a WordPress platform.
  • Sound knowledge of communications and community engagement best practices.
  • Effective time management while coordinating and implementing multiple simultaneous activities.
  • IAP2 training and community engagement/public participation experience is considered an asset.
  • Be a strategic thinker, ensuring that communications pieces are errorfree, produced on time, and aligned with the Villages' overall strategic direction and policies/guidelines.
  • Have good judgement, be able to prioritize and organize your workload, and can work independently within a team setting.
  • Knowledge of office operations, administrative processes, and systems.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a degree or diploma in Communications or a related field from a recognized postsecondary institution.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in the field of Communications, preferably for a public sector entity (an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered).
  • Hold a Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence (required).
The annual salary offered for this non-union position is between $59,600 to $67,100 and includes an excellent benefits package.
