Purpose of Role:


The Manager Metallurgy will contribute to the execution of the strategy for the metallurgy team, and assist with the design and implementation of technical plans and projects, ensuring their alignment with short and medium term organizational strategies.

Provides information to team members that address internal or external business and regulatory issues.

Undertakes projects to optimize performance in an area of metallurgy and makes recommendations on current and emerging practices and technologies that are a source of key competitive advantage.

Provides technical expertise while facilitating the training and mentoring of employees.


Responsibilities:


  • Use advancedlevel knowledge in managing mineral processing projects and operational support_
  • Oversees activities related to metallurgical test work conducted in laboratories and testing facilities.
  • Acts as an ambassador for continuous improvement within metallurgy; researches for new methodologies and tools to improve current practices.
  • Interacts with Operations Strategy and Technical Services personnel to define characteristics of ore resources/ reserves and corporate initiatives for operations excellence.
  • Foresees barriers to project success and escalates major issues.
  • Interacts with and/or supervises consultants and engineering groups engaged in development of specific Kinross processing projects at new or existing sites.
  • Collaborates with cross functional teams and considers the business impact of decisions on diverse groups; influences others to achieve project goals
  • Participates in the study and execution of brown field and green field projects by representing the metallurgy field to the study, construction, commissioning, rampup and completion testing activities required of new or expansion projects.
  • Provides input to establishing and implementing best practices, policies and systems among our operations.
  • Provides technical input to sitebased studies and operational improvements under mandate from site teams.
  • Collaborates with peers to identify and analyze risks and opportunities related to the function.
  • Participates in technical due diligence reviews
  • Acts as an advanced professional on queries and issues related to technical area of expertise
  • Performs technical audits to support operations.
  • To advise the management group on mineral processing and metallurgy_
  • Prepares business cases and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders
  • Influences leaders and key stakeholders to buy into change efforts that will result in sustained competitive advantage

Assists in developing and implementing strategies and initiatives that support the organization's 4PP.

Proactively ensures Metallurgy and Mineral Processing initiatives fully consider health, safety and the impact on the environment and surrounding communities.

Fosters a work environment where safety is a top priority. Assists in the development of policies and procedures relating to safety and the environment.

Ensures that mine site technical staff and respective work areas are in compliance with Health and Safety policies and regulations.

Ensures that mine site Processing staff have the necessary training, skills, knowledge, and tools to maintain Kinross' high EHS performance and standards.

Assists in accident and incident investigations and supports the implementation of new policies and procedures by agreed upon dates. Wears required safety equipment while at mine sites.
