Reporting to the Manager, Policy Planning, the Corporate Energy Manager, will help implement civic facilities' retrofit projects as outlined in a recent GHG reduction study.
This position works closely with the Manager, Facilities and staff in this division for project input and direction; with the Manager, Project Delivery; and will interface with internal and external stakeholders and lead project management for several civic facilities' GHG reduction retrofits.
The job requires identifying, managing, and supporting projects and initiatives related to energy consumption, energy conservation, and GHG emissions reductions (for corporate operations as a first priority, and for the broader community as a second priority).
Establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with a variety of key stakeholders including various City departments, external partners (BC Hydro, Fortis BC, etc.), consultants, community groups, and other government agencies is essential in this role.
Basic Qualifications:
Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Resource Management, Sustainability, or a related field with appropriate certifications and training related to the work (a valid professional designation in the Province of BC as a Professional Engineer, Registered Engineering Technologist or Certified Energy Manager would be considered an asset), and a minimum of five years of related experience that includes the following:
- Technical knowledge and strategic guidance to support building retrofits, solid waste, fleet, and infrastructure optimization projects, with an emphasis on energy efficiency and GHG reduction;
- Sound knowledge of the principles, processes and practices related to local government corporate and community policy development, strategic planning and federal and provincial legislation;
- Knowledge of current and emerging sustainability principles, such as, emissions modelling and accounting approaches, BC Energy Step Code, renewable and low carbon energy technologies, and climate change mitigation and resilience solutions relevant to a municipal context;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including facilitation, collaboration, and relationship building;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills
- Class 5 Driver's License
