May - August 18, 2023 _with possibility of extension_


Hours of Work: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm including some evenings and weekends

Job Summary:


Principal Tasks:


  • Program Delivery (75%)
  • Shadow different interpreters to learn delivery techniques, styles and program content
  • Interpret for school/youth and public groups in both official languages
  • Coordinate school programs, including assembling program supplies, preparing schedules and assisting volunteer interpreters
  • Participate in seasonal training programs for volunteer and staff interpreters
  • Mentor volunteer interpreters
  • Assist in care and maintenance of program materials, indoor exhibits, as well as outdoor tipis and sod house.
  • Research and Writing (20%)
  • Assist with special projects related to extending French services
  • Evaluate and revise all yearround French school programs in conjunction with the French Coordinator (meeting Manitoba curriculum standards)
  • Revise French school program evaluation forms as needed
  • Work with French Coordinator to develop public programs to be delivered in French
  • Other duties as assigned (5%)

Basic Hiring Criteria:


  • University/college student working towards a degree/diploma in history, education, science or tourism
  • Ability to speak English and French fluently
  • Class 5 license required
  • Available to work the occasional evenings and weekends in June, and occasional evening and rotating weekend shifts in July and August
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Proven experience working with children (a child abuse registry check and criminal records check are required)
  • Knowledge of Manitoba social and natural history an asset
  • Knowledge of Indigenous language and culture is an asset
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR an asset
  • Private transportation to FWA (no bus service available)
