This position coordinates the outage and permit scheduling to ensure the ATCO Electric Electrical system is operated in a safe and secure manner within the Alberta Interconnected Electrical System (AIES).

The position is responsible for scheduling and coordinating outages to Electrical Systems and facilities for ATCO Electric, affiliates, and third parties and interacting with the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), and other utilities such as BC Transmission Corporation, SaskPower, Fortis, and REAs where required.

This is accomplished by coordinating maintenance and construction activities involving distribution, transmission, generation, SCADA and related communication systems within the company system.

What You Get to Do:


  • Assists in Scheduling planned maintenance on electrical system equipment and facilities. Coordinates with field staff to schedule "opportunities" for combined outages, etc.
  • Provides maintenance schedules, risk assessments, and mitigation plans to affected parties as well as the AESO as required.
  • Assesses the risk of outages and develops mitigation plans as required.
  • Provide, discusses maintenance plans, assessments, and mitigation plans with the SOC Operators as required to ensure understanding.
  • Responsible for ensuring updated substation documentation is available for operating staff. This should progress to ensure substation operating procedures are updated.
  • Assists and provides direction in the preparation of switching orders.
  • Responsible for the management of the Control Room Operating Window (CROW) software user interface and access.
  • Submitting weekly outage reports.
  • Assists with investigations and provides input into incident reports related to switching incidents as required.
  • Provided input into internal and external practices and procedures for the operation of the Electrical system.
  • Reviews procedures and reporting to ensure compliance to operating procedures and practices.
  • Participate on Committees and Construction teams representing System Operations Scheduling.
  • Review/update SLDs as required for Projects and new construction. Provide input into layout and additions ad required.

Qualifications:


  • Grade 12 and certification as a Journeyman Powerline Technician, Power Systems Electrician, Industrial Electrician or a Technology Diploma related to the electrical field from a recognized institute of technology.
  • Three years' experience as a System Operator. Applicants with lesser qualifications will be required to complete
  • Non-Bulk Operator Training Program.
  • Bulk Operator Training Program.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong mathematical skills, i.e. algebra and trigonometry, and have a thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of electricity.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to be successful in this position.
  • Full understanding with applicable sections of the AESO Policies and NERC Standards (eg AESO policy
  • Superior leadership, interpersonal, communication, and troubleshooting/problem solving skills.
  • Ability and experience working on teams in a fastpaced environment. Proven ability to remain calm and make expert decisions in high stress situations with tight timelines.
  • Must adhere to safety sensitive and CIP compliance protocols.
  • Support alignment opportunities of the operation of Non-Bulk and Bulk Electrical System.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Advanced customer service/relations skills.
