    Casual (Evening & Weekends)

    West Vancouver Transit is calling for applications from people with strong customer service skills to be considered for Community Bus Operator positions. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with the public, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and take pride in their safe driving record. The Community Bus Operator is a key representative of a transit organization rich in history, dedicated to customer service, safety, and reliability. Community Bus Operators must be capable of accomplishing multiple tasks in a complex environment while demonstrating superior communication skills. Working under established policies and procedures, Community Bus Operators work closely with departmental staff and must be able to exercise discretion and sound judgement. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    • Safely operating a transit vehicle from our fleet of buses in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act of the Province of British Columbia, regulations and municipal bylaws, as well as policies and procedures as required by the transit department;
    • Demonstrating courtesy and attention to passengers' comfort and safety and providing a high level of customer service to passengers;
    • Providing general information and assistance to passengers regarding routes, schedules and fares as required;
    • Collecting and monitoring of fares, transfers, tickets and passes;
    • Maintaining a high standard of personal appearance including the care and wearing of uniforms issued to the operator; and
    • Performing other duties as required


    Applications will be accepted from those with a minimum Class 4 unrestricted Driver's Licence, exemplary driving and accident record, proven experience in customer service/hospitality, and adaptable to a flexible work schedule. The successful candidate will be required to supply a Police Information and Vulnerability Sector Check and a copy of their credentials; a driver's abstract and claims history which demonstrates a history of safe, reliable legal driving. All shifts will start and end on the North Shore.

    Position Status:
    Union (ATU) – Casual

    Hours of Work:
    Casual: Up to 24 hours per week
    Hours of work and shifts may vary depending upon operational requirements. The successful candidate must have flexibility and be available evenings and weekends.

    Rate of Pay:
    $31.37 per hour for the first 6 months after training - $33.73 per hour thereafter
