    Occupational Therapist Physical Medicine (Job ID: 3610)

      Seeking an Occupational Therapist with excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills who is comfortable working in a high-pressure environment. This position will be primarily responsible for providing assessment and treatment recommendations for outpatients within the Surgery Program. Reporting to the Manager, 2M Surgery, Fracture Clinic & Outpatient Rehabilitation, this role will primarily provide outpatient clinical services to our hand and upper limb patients. In addition, the post holder will also provide occasional Occupational Therapy services to our 2M Inpatient Orthopedic/General Surgery unit, Pre-admission Clinic, and Day Surgery unit as required.

      DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Provision of Occupational Therapy to promote, maintain or restore health and wellbeing through engagement in meaningful occupations in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure.
      • Occupational therapy services will include assessment, treatment, consultation, discharge planning and education to patients, family members/caregivers, and external agencies
      • Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care optimizing function and engagement in daily routines and complex discharge planning
      • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
      • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
      • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards

      ·Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Registered in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario required
      • Bachelor¿s Degree in Occupational Therapy required, Master¿s Degree preferred
      • BLS required (or willingness to complete within probationary period
      • MOCA certified and proficient at administering a variety of cognitive assessments
      • BLS required (or willingness to complete within probationary period).
      • ·Experience with assessment of cognition, mobility and safety with post-operative surgical patients preferred.

        ·Experience in hand and upper limb rehabilitation preferred

        ·Knowledge and skill in the fabrication and provision of orthoses an asset, training provided

        ·Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills

        ·Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care

        ·Flexible to meet additional responsibilities and duties as program demands as service provision may range across the Surgical and Critical Care Program

        ·Knowledge of community resources an asset

        ·Demonstrated effectiveness as an interprofessional team member

        ·Demonstrated ability to work with the Rehabilitation Assistants

        ·Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession (e.g. professional association) preferred

        ·Satisfactory attendance record.
