    Salary: $64,947-$81,218 annually (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)

    The Research Financial Services (RFS) department provides post-award financial management of federal, provincial, international and private contracts and grants related to research for five different Research Institutes at University Health Network.

    As an integral member of the Grants Management team within the RFS department, the Financial Analyst II performs a wide range of professional accounting activities requiring experienced, professional knowledge and application of accounting theory and principles. The individual performs detailed and complex accounting and advisory functions requiring sound professional judgment to ensure day-to-day operations are carried out in accordance with the established accounting principles, institutional / funding agencies' policies, and objectives.

    Duties

  • Work closely and independently with individual researchers, their support staff, and granting agencies/external organizations to account for and facilitate the administration of research grants
  • Oversee the set up of new grants and close expired grants in an accurate and timely manner
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements to granting agencies and other organizations
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis to assist with forecasting
  • Prepare monthly reporting packages for stakeholders to facilitate the decision making, financial reporting, and analysis process
  • Perform complex analysis and develop creative solutions to assist stakeholders at various levels
  • Work closely with institutional and other partners, and external auditors, to complete audits
  • Perform cross-functional duties and other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
  • Qualifications

  • University Degree in Business Administration or equivalent
  • Experience with Grant accounting preferred
  • Three - Five years (3-5) related experience in an accounting environment with exposure to a range of accounting principles, practices and procedures
  • Ability to analyze and interpret large quantities of financial and statistical data
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent client service and satisfaction
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with strong organization and time management skills
  • Skill in accurately performing detailed numerical computations in a timely manner using large amounts of financial and/or statistical data
  • Sound professional judgment, initiative, and the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of computer application accounting systems & software applications, preferably in a Microsoft Office environment (, Excel, Word, Access)
