    In-Scope

    Temporary, Full-Time

    Length of Term: 6 months

    Work Location: This role is eligible for hybrid work – this means you'll have the flexibility of working from home and in the office (subject to desk availability in the listed locations), on a scheduled rotation once training requirements have been met. Until then, the successful incumbent will be expected to work on-site, full-time.

    Pay Range: $64,776 - $81,744

    The Income Replacement Benefits (IRB) Representative is independently responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and coordinating financial benefits for Saskatchewan injury claims from information submitted by the Personal Injury Representatives (PIR) e.g., salaried, self-employed, death, determined or residual capacity benefits. The IRB Rep provides specialized support in the field of Income Replacement Benefits, trains and assists staff in the technical aspects of their work and deals with complex and/or escalated issues and inquiries.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Note: This section is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities – other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

    • Reviews, evaluates, and revises financial information submitted by branch Personal Injury Representatives (PIR) to determine coverage entitlement and gross yearly employment income for injured customers as determined through interpretation of three iterations of the Automobile Accident Insurance Act (AAIA), policy wordings, and other related acts and regulations.
    • Analyzes employment-related information (e.g., T-4, paystubs) necessary to calculate Income Replacement Benefits.
    • Monitors and redefines Income Replacement Benefits (IRB) for PIRs whose customers are on vocational rehabilitation plans including analysis of paystubs, personal, business, and corporate tax returns for return-to-work income and tax credits impacting benefits.
    • Responsible for accurately coordinating, evaluating, and calculating payouts, taking age or life expectancy and calculated income to formulate the lump sum death benefit.
    • Updates investments earnings for 10% lump sum benefit customers and assist with annual reporting to Canada Revenue Agency.
    • Provides PIRs with information required for IRB eligibility as well as explains income replacement benefit to PIR II's/Senior PIR's and provides support in the interpretation of the benefit to the customer.
    • Participates in the development of forms, letters, and procedures for the IRB process.
    • Participates in injury group or committee meetings with respect to IRB benefits
    • Contacts and/or interviews SGI personnel, legal representatives and/or other external persons to respond to appeal requests from SGI's Legal department.
    • Responds to inquiries and/or complaints regarding coverages, benefits, and termination of benefits.
    • Ongoing consultation with management and systems personnel regarding the operations and changes needed to improve the use and operation of the Claims system.
    • Performs peer reviews for accuracy of calculations and compliance with legislation.
    • Attends appeals and mediations on contentious IRB claims where necessary.
    • Develops and presents technical training sessions to branch staff.
    • Performs analysis of financial and claims information.
    • Processes Consumer Pricing Index updates on the anniversary list and advise branch PIRs of corrections required.
    • Maintains the Long-term reserving report.

    TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

    • Knowledge of the insurance coverages and benefits provided by the AAIA, associated regulations and/or general business policy wordings.
    • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and their application to varied departmental requirements.
    • Knowledge of Part 1 of The Income Tax Act and its application to the adjustment of income replacement benefits.
    • Knowledge of general insurance theory and the principles, practices, methods, and techniques related to the adjustment of injury claims.
    • Knowledge in the preparation of detailed financial calculations, statements and reports using computer spreadsheet applications (e.g., Excel).

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Accounting, or defined equivalency.

    EXPERIENCE

    • 3 – 5 years' of directly related experience in a business role, with at least 2 of those being in accounting.
