The Opportunity
This position will support program logistics of place-based HIPPY programming and CNC in smaller centres and to support the specific and detailed requirements that are associated with meeting the settlement needs of children in various YMCA Immigrant Services programming (i.e. childminding regulations and child protection practices and procedures). The Program Support staff will also work directly with families to provide support in programs and activities as needed.


Responsibilities

  • Supporting program delivery and activities as needed
  • Organization, tracking and recording of information, data entry as well as support in the logistics of planning program work and activities
  • Supporting the understanding of and adherence to the specific program requirements that impact the safety of children accessing settlement services (Care for Newcomer Children Guidelines and Child Protection Policies & Procedures)
  • Providing outreach support in the HIPPY program area
  • Supporting the development and updating of recording tools and templates
  • Client Intake for YMCA Centre for Immigrant Programs, Pictou County

Qualifications & Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to develop good rapport with children and parents
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines and tasks
  • Ability to demonstrate creative initiative in tool and resource development
  • Positive and effective interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills
  • Experience working with newcomer children and adults
  • Experience working in a variety of online platforms (Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Webinars etc.)
  • Proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and requires mínimal supervision to complete
  • Able to present information clearly and concisely
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment in the handling of confidential information
  • Valid NS Driver's License and reliable vehicle essential
  • A current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Child Abuse Register Check
  • Proof of valid First Aid and CPR training
  • Employees will be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training
  • TB Test Result and Nova Scotia adult routine vaccination report
