Job Synopsis


The communications manager is the lead resource for communications expertise for MCC Manitoba and is responsible for development and implementation of provincial communications plans.

This role provides expertise in planning and implementation, content creation, brand management, digital marketing and public relations.

The position includes a strong focus on written content creation and telling stories of impact with the goal of raising the profile of MCC in the province.


The communications manager is part of a vibrant communications and donor relations (CDR) team that includes fundraising, communications, engagement, and outreach components.

This team is responsible for revenue generation, communication and engagement with supporters, volunteers, groups, communities, and churches in alignment with the relief, development, peace work and values of MCC.

The communications manager supervises the design & digital media associate. Both positions work collaboratively with provincial colleagues, as well as national marcomm network counterparts to achieve organizational communications objectives.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma with a focus on communications, international development, humanities, theology or equivalent experience
  • Five years of experience with responsibility for creating written and graphic content, developing communication plans and managing projects
  • Excellent written communications skills with experience writing for different audiences and channels including print, web and digital
  • Expertise in all aspects of content creation including idea generation, interviewing, writing and copy editing
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Knowledge and familiarity with digital marketing best practice, implementation and analytics
  • Strong ability to synthesize information and manage deadlines and expectations generated within a collaborative organizational culture
  • Able to work with sensitivity in a diverse cultural and theological context
  • Excellent time and priority management skills with keen attention to detail Effective project manager with high emotional intelligence who can maintain priorities and move projects forward while incorporating input from a variety of stakeholders
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work
  • Valid Manitoba driver's license
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada

PREFERRED

  • Basic knowledge of photography and videography, video editing
  • Experience in or familiarity with charitable sector and fundraising context
  • Familiarity with international development sector and a heart for social justice
  • Understanding of supportercentered communications
  • Experience working with the media

Key Responsibilties

Coordination & Content Production - 80%

  • Responsible for development and implementation of an annual communications plan aligned with provincial priorities and the strategic goals of the national marketing/communications network
  • Produce written content including stories, highlights, summaries, media releases and marketing copy focused on provincial program and social enterprise initiatives, in addition to international programming
  • Responsible for editorial direction and oversight/supervision of design and production of content including podcasts, newsletters, impact reporting, promotional collateral, videos and digital platforms (website, social)
  • Responsible for development and oversight/supervision of implementation of a social media strategy utilizing analytic tools to measure the effectiveness of digital campaigns and facilitate the incorporation of reporting, tracking and data into decisionmaking

Public Relations - 20%

  • Responsible for the positioning and oversight of MCC's brand in Manitoba
  • Manage and grow relationships with provincial media to secure and grow earned media coverage in Manitoba
  • Coordinate media interviews with organization spokespersons and act as organization's spokesperson as required
  • Produce briefing notes, key messages and talking points for organization spokespersons
  • In collaboration with senior staff, plan, develop and implement internal communication and issues management plans consistent with organizational policies and procedures

Base salary:
$63,757
