Seed Technician, Plant
Bayer is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our production operations team.

The Seed Technician will be responsible of operating machinery / equipment for the production process, ensuring that the production process happens safely, effectively and with quality in alignment with general procedures of the area.

The position includes performing trouble-shooting of equipment and handling basic activities in Bayer systems (SAP and electronic networks), commonly used in production processes.

This is a permanent position, based out of the Lethbridge, Alberta site. Shift work is required, including 2 Saturdays of overtime per month.


What you will do:


  • Ability to work rotate shifts (mornings / afternoons/ evenings (and/or weekends as needed)
  • Operate equipment, including a forklift, pickup truck at the site, and systems leveraging realtime data / technology in own area with minimum settings adjustment and alignment with existing SOPs, promoting standardization and ensuring efficient production processes
  • Provide standardized training and mentoring to seasonal workforce, area trainees and peers supporting achievement of personal development goals
  • Manage partnership with key business partners to plant
  • Provide support in administrative procedures, documenting key readings, maintenance orders and production information.
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and approval of key process documentation (operating, startup and shutdown procedures; standard work; process flow and instrumentation diagrams; etc.)
  • Performs preventive maintenance and inspections; troubleshooting problems associated with equipment, processes, and systems as needed
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to Bayer's Health Safety & Environment (HSE) and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) standards (e.g. general shop floor/machine safety and operating procedures)
  • Alert senior technician and leadership as needed when nonconformities in product or process variances occur
  • Comply with internal procedures and support compliance with legal requirements applicable to area activities
  • Help keep metrics and other relevant information current on visual boards to drive teamwork and facilitate shift change over
  • Support areas across the plant in driving the adoption of 5S practices to maintain an environment conducive to work, aligning with the labeling and ordering of tools and keeping place of work swept and clean
  • Participate in DDS (Daily Direction Setting) meetings, as morning and any other daily meeting.
  • Engage in continuous improvement programs and identify opportunities to improve performance in accordance with production area, site and Bayer goals
  • Utilize Focused Improvement (e.g., 5WHYs) techniques to initiate process and standard work improvements
  • Coach less experienced technicians on manufacturing standards, work processes and Lean Practices
  • Prepare to lead Daily Direction Setting (DDS) meetings (morning, half day meetings) as needed; articulating shift objectives and allocating resources accordingly across all active production areas
  • Support and maintain metrics and relevant information (e.g., unexpected downtime) to drive teamwork and facilitate shift change over
  • Support areas across the production location in driving the adoption of foundational lean practices to maintain an environment conducive to work
  • Coach others on various work processes and lean practices
  • Familiarize with Focused Improvement techniques (e.g., 5WHYs) to facilitate resolution of action items and improvements in the area they are working on

Who you are:


  • Required Experience:_
  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Ability to drive a forklift (a Forklift License is an asset)
  • Ability to work shift work
  • Experience working with internal/external customers
  • Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks
  • Must have a valid driver's license in good standing to operate a pickup truck at the site
  • Desired Experience:_
  • Advanced training including technical or college degree
  • Intermediate computer skills with experience using of SAP and PLC
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, production
  • Experience working in the agriculture industry
  • Understanding of Health and Safety for manufacturing environments
