Reporting to the Superintendent of Education: Curriculum & Assessment, the Central Cataloguer will work from both the Catholic Education Centre and school libraries as needed, and will be responsible for the cataloguing and classifying of library resources. Some travel will be required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be committed to the York Catholic District School Board's Mission and Vision.

Catalogue and classify all materials (in English and French) for both elementary and secondary schools and the professional library in accordance with the Dewey Decimal Classification system DDC23, Library of Congress Subject Headings and Children's Subject Headings.

Use Web-based cataloguing databases and tools as well as perform original cataloguing in English & French.

Collaborate with central library services staff and liaise with library resource staff in elementary and secondary schools.

Input data and produce statistical and tracking reports.

Assist in training of LAS staff as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Library and Information Technician Diploma or a degree in Library Science.

Three years experience as a Library Technician in an automated library with extensive cataloguing experience.

Expertise in library computer functions and programs. Experience in Mandarin/M3/M5 software is an asset.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

Excellent communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.

Working knowledge of French language (reading and writing) preferred.

Proven ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels.

Reliable transportation as travel to schools will be required.

The above position is posted in accordance with CUPE 2331 Collective Agreement Article The salary will be as per placement on the Salary Grid of the current CUPE 2331 Collective Agreement.
