    Description

    At SMS Equipment, our Service Manager is responsible for driving results by developing and managing short- and long-term planning strategies, processes, and events that foster a positive experience for internal and external customers. This position is split between Red Deer & Calgary, AB.

    The shift rotation for this position is 5x2.

    The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $120,000 plus incentives.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for all activities related to the service function of Shop and Field Service Support, and operations involving the installation, maintenance and repair of parts and equipment.
  • Provide a safe work environment by enforcing safety policies, cooperating with site safety policies and participating in site specific safety programs.
  • Monitor the Service Work Order and Information System to ensure effective and full utilization of the system and to ensure that all service function informational and work order management information needs are met.
  • Oversee the work equipment purchasing function for the branch; provides support analysis and justification documentation.
  • Work closely with the parts and warehousing functions to communicate inventory needs of the service department.
  • Identify, manage, and document service function work processes and operating procedures, maximizing performance on a cost-effective basis.
  • Bottom Line analysis and review; monitors results and productivity and adjusts plans accordingly.
  • Provide the leadership necessary to support the development, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Region's Quality Management System.
  • Develop and maintain effective communications and relationships with customers.
  • Ensure timely and effective resolution of product service and warranty problems.
  • Ensure that machines operate within end-user productivity, reliability, and economic targets.
  • Direct a team of service professionals ensuring team direction supports and objectives maximize internal and external customer experience.
  • Seek opportunities for involvement in industry associations or professional organizations in order to develop relationships with end-users of products and services marketed by the Company.
  • Evaluate and develop new or expanded service business.
  • Ensure all department activities are conducted in full compliance with safety, health and environmental standards, company rules and processes (policies, CP's, SWP's, JHA's) and other applicable legislation.
  • Key role in maintaining quality of data, both completeness and accuracy in the computer systems.
  • Qualifications:

    The successful candidate will possess a Journeyperson Certification in a relevant trade along with a minimum of 5 years related industry experience. Additional requirements include:

  • Knowledge and ability to enforce compliance with safety rules and regulations; to minimize industrial injuries and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to oversee work assignment and allocation of trades peoples' time to best utilize available manpower in the field or shop.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in leadership within an industrial environment.
  • Planning and organizational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and complete projects.
  • Knowledge of contract documents and specifications.
  • Knowledge of parts distribution and parts management.
  • Knowledge of mechanical trade repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to coordinate quality assurance programs.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Knowledge of budgeting cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy with a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of individuals and groups.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license.
