Opportunity:
MacEwan University seeks an experienced Emergency Management Trainer for a full
- continuing opportunity with our Health, Safety and Environment department. In this role, you will contribute to creating a resilient campus community, fostering personal preparedness, and promoting the safety of all stakeholders. Reporting to the Manager of the Office of Emergency Management, you will be responsible for leading and planning the development and implementation of the Emergency Management Training Program, which includes launching the program, maintaining courses, tracking training records, and reporting on the course and its usage. In addition, you will enhance and deliver training to our Security Services on emergency protocols and lead the maintenance of that competency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing performancebased, engaging learning solutions that are practical and effective in various formats (blended learning, system simulations, elearning modules, presentations to deliver in instructorled training sessions), using various methodologies;
- Developing instructional materials to address specific learner profiles using instructional design principles;
- Evaluating and making recommendations on instructional design in various modalities;
- Developing, coordinating, scheduling, and providing safety and emergency preparedness coaching and training initiatives for the campus community; and
- Developing relationships with safety and emergency preparedness staff in local agencies that could be involved in mutual aid situations.
SKILLS:
You will have:
- Knowledge of change management methodologies;
- The ability to develop and manage the entire lifecycle of a training program, including identifying knowledge and skill gaps, creating effective teaching plans, and ensuring knowledge is delivered, maintained, and applied;
- The ability to prepare and present course curriculum in classroom and work environments;
- The ability to build strong working relationships through trust and credibility;
- The ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities and timelines;
- The ability to take initiative and continually drive projects and deadlines forward while still achieving high quality standards.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, along with demonstrated critical thinking and problemsolving skills;
- Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
- The ability to work independently;
- Familiarity with postsecondary culture and operations; and
- Knowledge of emergency responserelated legislation, regulations, and compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of a diploma in instructional design or related fields.
- A minimum of five years' experience developing, implementing, and delivering training programs.
- Experience in emergency management and response, including developing emergency response plans (ERPs).
- Experience with authoring tools (e.g. Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Captivate, etc.) and learning management systems.
- Completion of an Adult Education certification and/or training in adult learning principles.
- Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) Levels 100 and 200 is considered an asset.
- Emergency Operations Centre experience is considered an asset.
- Experience with emergency notification systems
