Overview of role:

Reporting to the Sr.

Manager - Line Maintenance, this role will be focused on supporting the individual front-line AME's, providing structure and consistent guidance to keep day to day operations flowing efficiently.


Key deliverables include:


  • Oversee maintenance personnel to ensure proper skill level and equipment/tooling is maintained for all work being performed within the AMO scope of work and advise the Sr Manager of any deficiencies;
  • Ensure maintenance personnel use appropriate tools and technical manuals in the performance of their work, and facilities are maintained in a clean condition;
  • Expedite maintenance and parts requirements while coordinating with Maintenance Control, Technical Representatives (Tech Reps) and various support staff to ensure mínimal impact on scheduling during Irregular Operations (IROPS), as well as during scheduled and unscheduled work;
  • Ensure Corporate Safety Promise and Standards are always maintained;
  • Ensure defects are corrected and planned maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and acceptable manner through the use of appropriate tools and technical manuals while complying with WestJet policies and procedural manuals;
  • Coordinate and manage planned and unplanned maintenance with Planning, MCC, Engineering, and Stores ensuring adequate staffing levels to prioritize job action on any aircraft/component requiring maintenance;
  • Expedite maintenance and part requirements while coordinating with other departments, teams, and various support staff to ensure mínimal impact to the schedule during IROPS and scheduled/unscheduled work;
  • Maintain personnel work schedules from day of to a minimum of three months out to ensure adequate coverage for all required maintenance activities at the base;
  • Partner with other Operations Managers, Out Base Managers and MCC to support staffing needs within the base and elsewhere as required;
  • Engage in hiring activity and performance appraisals (probationary and annual) to ensure proper staffing and skill levels within the team;
  • Ensure all maintenance personnel receives all required initial and ongoing company and technical training;
  • Provide daily leadership, guidance, coaching and performance development to a crew of AMEs, building an effective, positive, and respectful maintenance team;
  • Identify performance and personnel issues and take the necessary action in an effective and timely manner in consultation with the HRBP and Sr. Leadership Team as required;
  • Make personnel decisions (e.g., unfit for duty) and, should a significant policy or procedure violation occur or be at risk of occurring, address and mitigate the situation immediately;
  • Ensure that the various teams and stakeholders involved in daily operations are informed of any risk to the operations (i.e., maintenance concerns, safety or quality issues, resources deficiencies, etc.) and understand the options that are available via appropriate avenues (i.e., blogs, teams chats, shift report, etc.);
  • Report any significant concerns arising during operations to the Senior Manager and work as a team to resolve them in a timely manner;
  • Advise the Senior Manager
  • Line Maintenance of any resource and training requirements to support maintenance activities at the highest level;
  • Be accountable for all QC responsibilities for all work performed. Rectify and report any quality escapes through the IHR system and inform the Senior Manager;
  • Perform Materials duties if Materials personnel are unavailable;
  • Ensure hangars, shops, equipment, and offices are maintained in an operational, clean, and safe condition. Identified issues are to be mitigated and reported immediately;
  • Complete all duties with the highest level of safety in mind and report any condition or process which may adversely affect safety;
  • Ensure the Company's best interest, as defined in the company code of conduct, is maintained;
  • Complete a maintenance release as defined in MPM Chapter 11;
  • Participate in or lead Regulatory or Company committees/meetings that are relevant to the Base/Operation;
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Experience and qualifications:


  • Hold a valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License (M2, E, or S);
  • Hold an industry Canada Radio (Aeronautical) Certificate within six months from the date of accepting the position;
  • Able to hold ACA and complete a maintenance release as defined in MPM Chapter 11;
  • Demonstrate adequate knowledge and experience of industry practices and understand the responsibilities associated with the position;
  • Able to selfmanage and work shift work
