A vacancy exists for a Maintenance Worker III at Central Learning Services (Sherwood Park) with a job allocation of 1.0 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) working 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday 8:00am-4:30pm).

This position commences May 13, 2024.


The incumbent will need a broad general knowledge of buildings and building systems and is strong in three aspects of building lifecycle: construction, maintenance, and operations.

Related work experience in plant operation and construction or maintenance is an asset.

Requires a general handiness and must be able safely and effectively use a variety of hand and power tools, ladders, and other devices common to the construction and maintenance trades.

This role exercises good judgement to determine if a task will be self-performed or referred to the trades.

Strong understanding, knowledge, and the ability to work in accordance with the OH&S Act, Code and Regulations and school board policy.

Must have Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificates, as well as a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record.


Ability to schedule and prioritize work using strong time management skills, effective at managing competing priorities, and be equally proficient in working independently and as part of the Maintenance team.

Must be customer service oriented with strong communication skills (English - both oral and written), be diligent, punctual, and able to create positive working relationships with the trades to streamline work processes, decrease turnaround times and improve the quality of service to the schools.

Willing and able to take courses as needed for self-improvement, must follow safety practices and procedures relating to building trades and must have up-to-date safety courses.

Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, physical agility and to work in small, cramped and confined spaces. Physical mobility sufficient to move around the work environment (office, division, from school site-to-site, drive a van and respond to emergency situations, ability to handle the physical demands of the job by using knowledge of appropriate lifting tools and techniques, ability to lift or carry items weighing 20-50 pounds, with occasional lifting of items weighing over 100 pounds, ability to reach high work areas with ladders and/or scaffolds and working at heights greater than 10 feet, ability to work in inclement weather.

This position also provides leadership and supervision for Elk Island Catholic School's summer students tending school grounds and moving furniture in preparation for the new school year.
