What you will do:


  • This Educational Technologies Specialist (ETS) is the primary administrator for Blue Explorance, the tool the College uses to deploy student feedback questionnaires each semester and acts as the primary contact between the vendor's development team and Innovative Learning. The ETS provides regular, back up support for the administration of the LMS. The incumbent will undertake a significant amount of work on database development, maintenance, and administration in support of institutional initiatives. Support for other EdTech tools, integrations, project testing and deployment, and software updates is routine. The ETS also provides tier three support tickets requiring troubleshooting, the rapid development of workarounds and communication to relevant stakeholders in the College. This work requires solid communication skills, and significant experience with current tools, languages and practices related to the tasks described.

The Educational Technologies (EdTech) Specialist duties include:

  • Develop, maintain and administer a variety of databases and datasets to departmental standards in coordination with ITS
  • Implementing and supporting a variety of commercial and/or free/opensource software tools
  • Providing diagnosis and resolution of issues as they relate to the educational technologies software supported in Innovative Learning including but not limited to the LMS, Student Feedback Questionnaire tools, Microsoft tools used for teaching, video hosting platforms and related titles
  • Remaining aware of the suite of tools employed by the College
  • Developing and communicating workarounds for bugs and other software issues in a timely manner
  • Meeting with Humber stakeholders and thirdparty software partners to discuss and advise on projects involving educational technologies
  • Maintaining uptodate files in a manner consistent with departmental requirements
  • Sometimes support the coding, testing and maintainance of departmental websites including the integration of APIs where required
  • Working collaboratively within the department to support members of the Innovative Learning team and the Support Centre


The current suite of software, database and authoring tools in use includes but is not limited to: Blackboard Ultra, Blue Explorance, MS Teams (specifically for web hosting in the classroom), Panopto, Microsoft 365, Wordpress, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, SASS, NodeJS, Python and others.


What you bring to the role:

Education

  • An advanced 3yr diploma or degree related to educational technologies or computer software
  • Additional credentials seen as an asset: HTML, CSS, WordPress, JavaScript, JQuery, AngularJS, PHP, Python, MySQL, SASS, NodeJS, NodeJS.

Experience

  • Minimum 2years experience in an Education Technology environment with evidence of effective project management and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience creating and maintaining databases using current authoring tools.
  • Experience in a large institutional or similar setting where strong interpersonal skills and communication was effectively demonstrated.
