Glastech is currently located in Port Coquitlam, but building a new facility in the Campbell Heights Business Park in South Surrey with a move anticipated in June of 2023.

Glastech specializes in commercial, institutional, tilt-up warehouse and high-end residential glazing.

We are currently seeking an experienced Drafting & Design Manager to lead our talented team of drafters.

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, you will lead our team of talented drafters and coordinators through Pre-Design and project drafting needs which are fundamental to the process of converting a client's vision into a reality through the creation of a total design solution for every project we undertake.

This is a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines for multiple projects in multiple cities and locations at any given time.


Key responsibilities:

  • Support estimating with engineering oversight, concept design, thermal and structural advice.
  • Critical to the role is the ability to review in detail and approve first submittal 2D, 3D and Revit drawings, fabrication releases, cutting lists and material submittals, developed by the drafting team, for accuracy, completeness and alignment with project scope.
  • Troubleshoot potential installation issues, access, connection and material design limitations.
  • Must be able to identify potential problems, formulate recommendations and communicate effectively with all project staff to provide proactive solutions.
  • Ensure compliance for all projects with manufacturer's recommendations and company procedures as well as the requirements, specifications and amendments of each client.
  • Manage the work of our team of inhouse drafters and multiple contract drafting firms in the assignment of work, prioritization of projects, and providing training and professional development recommendations.
  • Ensure that all drawings meet project scope and specifications and that there are clearly defined methods of construction setting out requirements and materials to be used
  • Serve as liaison between Drafting Department, Project Management Team and Estimators to scope, plan and prioritize projects as well as ensure compliance with project requirements and attend to all issues that might arise.
  • Support various site foremen and site superintendents with custom detail analysis, installations instructions, site changes and details arising from site conditions.
  • Participate in technical meetings with contractors/consultants/clients and present first submittal drawings to architects, engineers, construction companies, etc. for review and signoff.
  • Assign and manage the fabrication drawing creation process for use in project construction phase in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitor and support the master schedule in conjunction with Operations.
  • Review, monitor and enhance the drafting team's processes, policies, procedures and quality assessment plans to ensure accuracy and availability of all design information to all relevant parties.
  • Maintain, standardize and expand the drawing details library/database for future reference. Maintain/ review submittals templates and checklists for the department.
  • Plan and develop future or existing systems for scaling up manufacturing and process development.
  • Supervise, coordinate and perform a variety of administrative tasks such as scheduling staff, maintaining records, responding to requests for information or services, preparing correspondence, reports, etc.
  • Carry projects from estimating to final approved drawings; assist Project Managers in resolving technical design issues and other site changes as they arise.

Requirements:


  • 10 years of professional experience in the glazing industry or related experience including a minimum of 2 years managing a team
  • Outstanding ability to review architectural drawings, engineering plans, and blue prints and identify potential errors, gaps or problems with the project
  • Direct experience in glazing is a huge asset for this role.
  • Understanding of standard drafting practices, related industry standards and able to follow, implement and improve company design and drafting standards and requirements
  • Ability to read contracts and estimator reports and understand how to translate them into formal shop drawings.
  • Engineering, Engineering Technologist, Architecture or other related degree preferred
  • AutoCAD certification preferred; Outstanding AutoCAD knowledge required. REVIT experience required.
  • Strong management skills to ensure timely and accurate completion of project deliverables
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of issues on multiple assignm
