Job Summary:


The LINC English Language Instructor is responsible for all aspects of the classroom including developing and delivering curricula and lesson plans; creating a safe and stimulating learning environment; and supervising classroom volunteers.


Your Role:

Archway's LINC English Language Instructor with the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Program contributes by:

  • Preparing and instructing level appropriate Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) skill building and language and settlement lessons to immigrant and refugee newcomers while increasing understanding of Canadian social, workplace and cultural practices.
  • Creating a welcoming and engaging facetoface and online classroom environments.
  • Connecting learners to the community through field trips, guest speakers, and other sociocultural activities consistent with monthly teaching goals and overall LINC program objectives.
  • Monitoring students' progress through the components of Portfolio Based Language Assessments.
  • Providing feedback to students informally on an ongoing basis, and formally through student progress reports and conferencing.
  • Maintaining student attendance records and completing monthly reporting requirements.
  • Sharing resources, and contributing to curricula and plan joint activities, independently and through teacher sharing sessions.


This position is a great fit for someone who has great interpersonal skills, solid digital technology skills, cultural humility, has knowledge of settlement language issues, and has their TESL Certification (STD 2) or equivalent.


Our Offer:


  • Wage: $28.00 per hour
  • A casual/oncall position, availability required Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM and/or 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM, and Monday to Thursday from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Getting an Interview-you will be considered if you have:

  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized university.
  • TESL Certification (STD 2 or equivalent) from a TESL Canada recognized institute or equivalent.
  • Completed CCLB CLB Bootcamp Certification.
  • Experience teaching in an adult EAL classroom.
  • Experience developing, preparing and delivering studentcentred and taskbased lessons suitable for a multifaceted classroom, including multilevel classes and literacy level learners.
  • Experience using digital technologies to support teaching and learning, particularly in the use of Avenue, LMS.
  • Experience teaching communitybased settlement English in a diverse classroom is an asset.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmark competencies and associated resources.
  • Knowledge of local community resources.
  • Knowledge of settlement language issues.
  • Strong sense of cultural humility and understanding of the needs of adult immigrant learners.
  • Ability to assist all students, including literacy levels and learners with special needs.
  • Strong digital literacy skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of distractions and competing priorities, requiring the ability to switch tasks as needed.
  • Ability to work
    in person with staff and clients, requiring adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • A satisfactory Provincial Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
