Manager, Black and Racialized Students Success Program


This Manager, Black and Racialized Students Success Program establishes the college strategic commitments of being a place that honours, values and celebrates the whole of every person and ensuring access to education and reduce barriers for all by establishing a strategic plan and developing relevant programs to expanding access for Black and racialized and other underrepresented populations.


The role focuses on creating and managing a centre of excellence for Black and racialized students' success by building programs to improve overall experiences, progress, outcomes and well-being of these students by identifying and removing systemic barriers for underrepresented groups.


Advising, mentoring and supporting students transition into post-secondary through a holistic culturally safe, health and well-being framework that includes strong supports for achievement for career and academic goals and aspiration.


Responsibilities:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Academic and Student Support Services

  • Develop a strategic plan for Black and racialized student achievements Centre of Excellence
  • Develop, implement and evaluate strategies and programs to elevate Black and racialized student success that includes but not limited to skillbuilding workshops, study groups and mentorship programs
  • Managing the budget and day to day operations of the Centre
  • Responsible for hiring and supervising program employees
  • Collect and analyze College student demographic data
  • Conduct research (including student focus groups and surveys) to identify barriers to Black and racialized student success
  • Monitor trends relating to common Black and racialized students concerns and identify knowledge and service gaps, make recommendations to the Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer to close gaps and reducing/eliminate challenges for Black and racialized students
  • Identify, develop, and implement appropriate supports, tools, resources, programs, and initiatives for Black and racialized students to enhance student success and wellness
  • Develop and implement benchmarks to measure and evaluate student progress, outcomes of service delivery, supports, programs, and initiatives; identifying gaps and recommending strategies for improvement
  • Responsible for the development of trauma informed wellness programs for Black and racialized students that provides supports, responds to social and mental health challenges and promotes selfcare
  • In collaboration with the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Trainer develop and deliver presentations on human rights, equity, antiBlack racism, antioppression and relevant legislation, such as the Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Develop a Black and racialized peer study program
  • Ensuring that students are informed of scholarships, grants, and bursaries as well as study abroad/exchange programs, conferences, and events
  • Overseeing the Black and racialized students' taskforces
  • Member of the College's Equity and Inclusion Steering Committee and providing updates and information on the systemic barriers, discrimination, and harassment experienced by Black, racialized, and other underrepresented students; championing service improvements, excellence, and strategies for the success of Black and racialized students
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with Black and racialized descent communities and educational organizations
  • Collaborate and build relationships with key stakeholders across college departments and across the postsecondary sector

Career Preparation Services

  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating a mentorship program that pairs Black and racialized mentors with Black and racialized students
  • Ensuring that there is a process to inform students of work, research, and volunteer opportunities as well as internships, and placements
  • Providing job preparation and job search tools, supports, resources, initiatives, and workshops for Black and racialized students
  • Developing and delivering workshops on worker
