Let's Talk Science is a national charitable organization with a mandate to improve Science literacy through leadership, innovative educational programs, research and advocacy.

Our flagship science outreach program is the Partnership Program - the only national graduate student-driven science outreach program in the world.

The program currently operates on 26 university and college campuses coast to coast and is administered locally mainly by graduate student coordinators.

Last year over 111,000 youth were reached by over 1,600 volunteers in 474 communities.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist in volunteer recruitment and the creation of virtual recruitment platforms.
  • Assist in volunteer training with the coordinator team. Additionally, initiate interactive training sessions to help volunteers with communityevent related activities.
  • Connect volunteers for carpooling and collaborative purposes in preparation for community events.
  • Assist in the brainstorming, creation, and execution of virtual LTS outreach initiatives.
  • Maintain good relations with current community event partners.
  • Connect with new community partners to further expand LTS community integration. Actively search out community events where Let's Talk Science could become involved.
  • Ensure volunteers fill out activity logs in the LTS portal for every event with which they are involved
  • Encourage volunteers to invent/initiate their own LTS Community Event, and support them in the planning and execution of these events.
  • Mediate the professional relationship between community partners and volunteers.
  • Attend all Let's Talk Science major events (i.e. socials, volunteer appreciation events, leadership initiatives, etc.)
  • Attend 1 office hour biweekly
  • Attend monthly coordinator meetings
  • Assist with Let's Talk Science communication with the National Office, Western University, and all Let's Talk Science supporters (i.e. writing annual reports)
  • Assist other coordinators where applicable

Qualifications:


  • Community College or university level courses
  • Excellent leadership, professionalism, and management skills
  • Ability to work independently and well on a team
  • Interest in science education
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm and reliability
  • A graduate student or entering graduate school at Western University
  • Previous science outreach experience an asset
