Overview:

The LTCA contributes an important role within the Health Care Team. They are responsible for helping residents with daily routines and activities of daily living including recreational support. The role
does not include the provision of personal care to the residents. This role reports directly to the Nurse Manager.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Feed residents after successful completion of the Feeding with Sensitivity Course.
  • With appropriate training, pouring beverages; and delivery/retrieval of hydration mugs residents.
  • Assisting with the residents' dining experience under the direction of the Supervisor. This would include assisting residents to and from the dining area.
  • Performs light housekeeping duties such as tidying residents' rooms and collecting the garbage, cleaning closets, hanging clothes. Cleaning wheelchairs and cushions as well as marking residents' initials on their personal items.
  • Clean and make beds.
  • Share in observing changes in resident's condition and report observations to immediate Supervisor.
  • Answers call bells and notifies appropriate team member. Responds to individual resident alarms as needed.
  • Provides items of comfort, sitting with residents/clients and having purposeful conversations etc.
  • Supports resident attendance and participation in individual and groupbased recreation programming.
  • Assists in the setup and cleanup of the activity rooms.
  • Attend inservice programs and other workshops as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain good public relations with residents, staff and visitors
  • Be familiar with fire and emergency plans within the home.
  • Could be asked to perform 1:1 staffing for an individual resident.

Qualifications:


  • Grade 12 education
  • Preference for experience or education in recreation or health care.
  • Previous experience in senior care, group home, caring for a family member/friend will be considered an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Background Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Has the ability to maintain regular attendance.
  • Good oral and written communication.
  • The ability to work all shift hours: days/evenings/nights/weekends and holidays.
  • Must have sound interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Compassion, integrity, maturity, respect and a positive attitude are essential attributes.
  • Must be trained in WHIMS, Hand Hygiene and other courses as seen appropriate to this role.

Salary:
$18.47-$18.77 per hour
