The School College Work Initiative Dual Credit program at Durham College allows students to participate in post-secondary courses and apprenticeship training, while they are still in high school.

Dual credits engage students through exposure to college courses and culture while supporting their successful transition to post-secondary education. Presently, over 2,000 area high school students are taking a dual credit program with Durham College.

Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success. The Faculty of Liberal Studies requires a part-time professor to teach
Accounting I.

In this course, students are introduced to basic accounting fundamentals and work with a complete set of books for a sole proprietor.

Students explore the steps in the accounting cycle as well as effective internal financial controls.

The responsibilities of Durham College Part-time Professors include, but are not limited to:

Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
A professional designation is an asset.
A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
Experience participating in industryled or communitybased applied research is an asset.
Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
Proven track record of lifelong learning.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community stakeholders.
Understanding of the Ontario college system.

Required Experience

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR DUAL CREDIT PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS:

The Dual Credit program is a program that provides high school students with an opportunity to take a college credit while they are still attending high school.

The winter semester begins the week of February 19, 2024.

Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours per week with varied schedules Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Travel to high schools across Durham Region is required.
