An exciting opportunity to be a part of a professional camp team awaits you Our camps are summer day camps for children ages with a goal of introducing children to a lifetime of respect and appreciation for the natural world that sustains us all and we are hiring two (2) supervisors to take on leadership roles and oversee the 2023 summer camp program,.


Secondary responsibilities include assisting in creating and facilitating environmental education programs to children and assisting with the operation of the Nature Interpretive Centre.

Our goal is to provide a legendary guest experience through introducing children to a lifetime of respect and appreciation for the natural world that sustains us all.


This is a full-time (Monday through Friday, 40-44 hours per week) contract position beginning May 1 and ending September 1, 2023.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of camp program including staff management, programming, supervision, and coordination.
  • Providing excellent customer service and answering family/parent concerns.
  • Act in a professional and courteous manner to all coworkers, volunteers, visitors, campers and their families at all times.
  • Provide for the necessary care for each child.
  • Always behave in a childcentred manner with a focus on care, compassion, kindness, and growth.
  • Organizing camp administrative work.
  • Preparing and delivering training sessions to the staff and volunteer team.
  • Assist with scheduling and training of volunteers.
  • Overseeing development and delivery of educational camp programs.
  • Maintaining Royal Botanical Gardens information or visitor information confidentiality at all times.
  • Providing regular and consistent feedback to staff and volunteers.
  • Opening & closing buildings and conducting financial transactions with camp families and visitors.
  • Attending and chairing staff meetings
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements:


  • Registered in or graduate of postsecondary program in education, sciences, recreation and leisure or another related field
  • A demonstrated interest in the outdoors, natural sciences, working with camps, children and the public Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Considerable, varied experience working with children in educational or recreational programs.
  • Must have a First Aid Certificate, minimum level Standard First Aid with CPR-C. See notes below.
  • Attend all precamp and incamp training days as scheduled.

Notes

Note 1:
Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check


All camp staff require a Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check, their own expense and must be submitted prior to beginning work.

VS checks are to be obtained from the Municipality in which you permanently reside at your own expense. Please check your local Police Services website to confirm what identification is required, cost and payment method.

Upon an offer you must provide an original VS Check as indicated above with a "Date of Search" of less than sixty (60) days from hire date.

Checks greater than sixty (60) days will not be accepted.


Note 2:
Minimum Age Requirement for Camp Staff


Following the Ontario Camps Association (OCA) standards (published 2023), all staff who have direct supervisory and programming responsibilities with participants, whether in an assistant role or not must be at least sixteen (16) years of age within the calendar year.
