Job Summary
As an ABC Head Start Education Assistant, you will play an integral role in supporting ABC Head Start's mission and vision of raising families out of poverty and helping children harness their superpowers, conquer hardships, and live their best life while ensuring all children have equal access to a full and successful life.
Supported by the Site Supervisor, the Education Assistant is responsible for participation and support in the planning and implementation of early learning/head start programming as part of the interdisciplinary team.
Major Functions and Responsibilities:
- Skills and abilities surveillance
- IPP development and monitoring
- Progress reporting
- Program planning and preparation
- Classroom and space design
- Classroom management
- Program implementation
- Health and Safety
- Research and Best Practice continued competency
- Professional supervision/evaluation
- Adhere to ABC Head Start policies, procedures and standards of practice
Required Skills & Experience:
- Working with children with complex needs (ASD, FAS, Global Delays)
- Experience working with preschool children and their families
- Experience working with vulnerable families (including lowincome)
- Intercultural competenceandexperience working with diverse populations and English language learners
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment
- Training in traumainformed practice and intergenerational trauma is an asset
- Training in bias awareness, intercultural competence and/or reconciliation is an asset
- Effective communication skills at all levels of the agency
- Strong observational skills
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and multiple priorities
- Flight curriculum familiarity is an asset
- Basic computer skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Early Learning and Child Care diploma. Special Needs Education Assistant diploma, Speech Language Pathologist Assistant diploma, Rehabilitation Practitioner Diploma or equivalent
- Current First aid Certificate
- Food Sanitation/Hygiene and WHMIS certification is an asset
Job Location
Specific site location to be determined
Salary
$ $24.13/hour
Work Schedule
80 hours bi-weekly, Monday - Friday
1⁄2 hour paid lunch daily
Type of Position
Regular Full Time - 10 months September thru June
