Assistant Tree Farm Manager

INL Group of Companies has been in business for over 70 years. Our divisions include our Landscape Maintenance Division, Stone Yard Division, Landscape Construction, Garden Centre and Tree Farm Division.


We currently have an opening for a Full Time Assistant Tree Farm Manager for our Tree Farm located in North Hamilton-Near African Lion Safari.


Responsibilities include assisting the Tree Farm Manager with the following:

  • Maintaining the care of plants, flowers, and trees
  • Supervise people and resources to ensure the production of healthy and beautiful flowers, plants, and trees that will be sold to the public or wholesale retailers
  • Direct nursery staff to cultivate and harvest trees, flowers, shrubs and other plants
  • Provide training to the nursery staff
  • Protect nursery plants from diseases, weeds, insects and pests
  • Implement the best standards in nursery management issues
  • Must maintain clean work areas
  • Able to work either outdoors or indoors indoors might be at a desk completing paperwork or on the phone, outdoors involves handon, physical exertion
  • Able to handle a fastpaced, high pressure environment during peak season especially
  • Able to work with a diverse workforce
  • Able to handle changes in temperature and humidity
  • Ensure all operating procedures are followed

Requirements:


  • Degree in horticulture or a related field is required
  • Two years of experience as a nursery/greenhouse worker
  • Ability to supervise others
  • Valid G driver's license with a clean abstract
  • Fluent English required
  • Ability to speak Spanish is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of plant propagation and cultivation
  • Experienced in greenhouse growing techniques
  • Familiarity with pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, and watering and planting procedures
  • Knowledge of various plants and plant names
  • Must be professional, dependable, organized and have attention to detail
  • Must have a great work ethic, be a teamplayer and have an entrepreneurial drive
  • Must be able to handle repetitive tasks such as bending, sitting, crouching and standing for long periods.
  • Ability to work extended hours as required including weekends
  • Able to use Microsoft office software such as Outlook, Word and Excel
