Description
The Support Services Supervisor is a non-executive member of the Management Team and is responsible in accordance with established operational policies and procedures, mission and values:

  • To give oversight and supervision to all employees and tasks in the food services and housekeeping departments (defined as Support Services)
  • To ensure cleanliness and safety standards are maintained throughout the facility for inventory control

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Written and Verbal Communication

  • Prepare and post weekly menus ensuring they are dieticianapproved as nutritionally balanced
  • Approve menu changes proposed by food services personnel
  • Develop and document options and recommendations to issues and problems
  • Support key stakeholders in understanding the implications of options and decisions
  • Assist with scheduled fire drills and assessment
  • Deal with resident complaints regarding food services and housekeeping matters
  • Conduct regular surveys with residents to ensure quality assurance in food service delivery
  • Fill and file internal supply order requests from staff members
  • Implement and update as required an operational manual for support services
  • Prepare, post and monitor monthly schedules for support services staff
  • Ensure support services employees are aware of and have access to all policies and procedures affecting them Conduct regular review of policies for compliance
  • Record and control inventory of all site resources
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and safety of the facility
  • Conduct daily and weekly rounds of facility to ensure safety and cleanliness including storage areas
  • Give oversight to requests for refreshments and meals for program activities/ meetings
  • Oversee delivery of supplies to ensure order accuracy
  • Ensure that weekend supplies are available for staff as per weekend supply listing
  • Oversee donations and work in collaboration with Support Service Employees and Cooks to maintain a safe and organized environment in storage areas

Reporting

  • Together with Property Manager, give oversight to work orders ensuring they are completed, recorded and filed
  • Work with maintenance contractors for repair of kitchen or dining room equipment as per Property Manager approval
  • Together with Property Manager, establish and maintain relationships with suppliers
  • Ensure that cleaning and food service delivery are conducted in keeping with Public Health, Salvation Army, Hostel Standards and Occupational Health & Safety standards and requirements
  • Generate and keep current master inventory listing. Conduct annual inventory of ER's furniture and equipment, recommending replacement as required by Property Manager
  • Prepare product orders for approval of Property Manager. Place orders if directed

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Participate in management team meetings, staff meetings, resident review meetings, staff training, etc., as required
  • Is a member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee
  • Adhere to Code of Ethics, Confidentiality Statement, Policies and Procedures Manual (ER), Toronto Hostel Standards
  • Comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and ER's Health and Safety Program
  • On call duties for intake and property issues as schedule

WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • This is a fulltime position based on 40 hours per week
  • Flexibility with schedule including evening and weekends
  • Dealing with client's complaints
  • Fast environment

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Completed High School
  • Certificate in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Food Handling, Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:


  • Three years' experience working in the food services industry
  • Supervisory experience with proven leadership ability
  • Thorough knowledge of the Toronto Shelter Standards

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:


  • Comfortable working within a diverse and multicultural environment
  • Effective organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Physically able to meet the demands of regular rounds of facility
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID 1
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Possess excellent problemsolving skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Second language an asset
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening
