Purpose and General Description:

NCC is looking for a passionate person to join the Ontario GIS team as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician.

The GIS Technician will work closely with the GIS Coordinators and GIS Assistant to support Ontario conservation initiatives. The GIS Technician will assist with a diversity of mapping, data management and quality control tasks, including creating, editing and manipulating spatial data (i.e.

anthropogenic features, species-at-risk or non-native invasive species data), reconciling NCC's geodatabases and Land Resource Management (LRM) database and creating maps for various internal and public reports and documents.

This intern position is intended to provide an inspiring, learning focused environment for a junior professional.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Supporting NCC staff by creating static and online maps that meet detailed specifications;
  • Editing and manipulating spatial data;
  • Responding to spatial queries from NCC staff;
  • Participating in team planning meetings to help develop creative and innovative GIS solutions to spatial problems.

Required Skills and Attributes:


  • Education or previous work experience related to geomatics;
  • An interest in conservation;
  • Proficient with ESRI ArcGIS software (ArcPro or ArcMap), including experience with creating maps following cartographic standards and editing and analyzing spatial data;
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online;
  • Experience with data management, particularly involving large datasets;
  • Highly motivated, analytical and detail oriented, and able to work independently;
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines;

Terms of Employment:
_**- Subject to funding, this is a 8-10 month position starting between April, 2024, until June, 2024;

  • Compensation: $20.70/hour;
  • Evening and weekend work may be required but is infrequent.
  • Positions will include "office work" that will be completed in a work from home setting.
