DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Addiction Counsellor is responsible for the provision of a broad range of addiction counselling and related supportive services to women within a residential treatment setting.

They will be facilitating client activities outside of structured program times. They will provide telephone support, intake, admission, ongoing assessment, individual and group counselling services in collaboration with team members. The Addiction Counsellor will also play an active role in the ongoing development of women's services.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Community College Diploma in Social Sciences (e.g. Human Services, Addiction Counsellor, Social Services Worker);
  • Registration with professional college, if applicable;
  • Experience in provision of substance abuse counselling to women, including intake/screening, assessment, referral and case management;
  • Experience in provision of group and individual counselling with women substance abusers;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
  • Well developed working knowledge of theories of addiction, treatment models, withdrawal management, mental health issues and women's issues;
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with the community;
  • Ability to recognize and diffuse escalating or potentially violent clients;
  • Knowledge of community resources and provincial addiction system;
  • Commitment to client focused philosophy of care;
  • Experience with multidisciplinary teams an asset;
  • Willingness to be clinically supervised and undergo ongoing professional development;
  • Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety and participation in regular inservice education sessions in this area; and
  • Proven good attendance record with the ability to maintain same standard.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:


The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.


Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
