Position Summary_


Under general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager is responsible for the daily activities required to run, maintain, and service the facilities and the events by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities_

The overall supervision, direction, coordination, and evaluation of team members of the Operations department.

Providing on-going training and detailed instructions to the Operations team members while always conducting themselves in a manner that upholds health and safety regulations, ensuring events will run as safely and efficiently as possible.


  • Assist the Director in managing all aspects of Operations including event coordination, building and grounds maintenance, ice maintenance, event staffing, setups, conversions, building security and fire safety.
  • Manage operations staff, responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, and discipling employees, scheduling, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Oversee the scheduling of the department and make sure it is integrated to meet the deadlines and demands for the facility's operations.
  • Experience in operating an Ice Resurfacer, Landscape equipment and other industrial equipment related to building management.
  • Ensure the ice is prepared for all practices, games, and other ice events.
  • Coordinate operations activities with building departments and contractors.
  • Implement and train staff on safety policies, corporate standards, safety precautions, rules and regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Anticipate and investigate, analyze, and resolve operational problems and complaints.
  • Liaise between tenants, contractors, and facility users as needed.
  • Maintain equipment and inventory, order all required supplies and materials.
  • Report irregularities, discrepancies, damage or loss of property or any other safety concerns to Director.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, on call as directed.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience_

Experience as a supervisor, especially in an ice facility/arena is considered an asset.

Manager of Operations must possess at least three (3) years' experience in facility/arena operations, as well as the following:


  • A high school diploma (or equivalent);
  • A valid Ontario "G Class" driver's license. A driver's abstract may be required;
  • Valid forklift certification is required;
  • Basic computer skills, including an understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.);
  • Experience using ice resurfacing machines and relevant ice maintenance experience;
  • The ability to operate equipment such as forklifts, floor scrubbers, etc.;
  • A strong ability to work safely around, and with, power equipment, including tools and machinery;
- he ability to work at heights, such as ladders and walkways. Working From heights training is an asset ;

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously;
  • An ability to work in a fastpaced environment, with timesensitive deadlines;
  • An ability to take and follow direction from the General Manager and/or Director of Operations;
  • An ability to work well in a team environment, as well as independently with mínimal supervision;
  • An ability to supervise a team and delegate in a professional, respectful, and safe manner;
  • A strong attention to detail, and strong problem solving skills;
  • Strong verbal communication and leadership skills;
  • Ability to develop good rapport with management, tenants, fellow employees and the general public;
  • Professional appearance and work ethic;
  • The flexibility to work a varied schedule which will include days, evenings, overnights, and weekends;
  • An understanding and a respect of general health & safety practices, as well as a willingness to learn the Meridian Centre's own Health & Safety Policy.
