Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities / Position Overview:_


The main responsibility of purchasing is to buy products and material for the store and determine where to find the best quality for the best prices and payment terms, and to build and maintain relationships with vendors.


Principal Responsibilities:


  • Ensure stock levels are maintained for hardline (hardware) items while using system reports to determine required stock quantities
  • Run daily reports on item inventory history to determine what items need to be ordered
  • Negotiate with vendors regarding prices, terms and delivery
  • Help monitor inventory counts and adjust counts in system when necessary
  • Monitor retail prices by 'priceshopping' other comparable stores and make price adjustments when required
  • Work to maintain high levels of communication with sales staff, advising them of any supplier shortages/backorders etc.
  • Work with contract/counter sales staff to source items/products for specialorders, completing all necessary paperwork
  • Arrange couriers for stock and specialorder items
  • Arrange for returns/credits for stock hardware items deemed to be defective with our vendors.
  • Help to monitor customer price lists in the system to ensure their sell prices are being updated accordingly
  • When time permits or as situations arise, obtain price quotes from different suppliers on stocked items to ensure fair pricing with existing suppliers or change suppliers if required
  • Assist customers on store floor as required
  • Assist with receiving duties when needed
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as requested by management

Knowledge, Skills, Ability and Experience:


  • Proficient with computers;
  • Knowledge of the building supply industry;
  • Positive attitude and proven ability to work under pressure;
  • Flexible and able to adapt to operational needs and deadlines;
  • Autonomous and dependable, while working in a team and contributing to the overall company goals;
  • Flexibility with schedule with ability to work some Saturdays and be able to work overtime when needed.

Working Conditions:


  • Ability to stand and/or sit for an hour, or more, at a time.
  • Ability to lift items weighing 3 lbs. to 50 lbs.

Compensation:


  • Benefits and RRSP match after 3 months' probation is successfully completed.
