Department summary
The School of Dentistry has been at the University of Alberta since 1917 and is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the College of Health Sciences.
The school has two undergraduate programs, Dentistry and Dental Hygiene, totaling 278 students.
There are 24 Faculty, 42 Academic Teaching Staff (ATS), and 115 Excluded Academic staff, that are supported by the Student & Academic Services unit
Position summary
The Academic Teaching Services Assistant Year 3-4 supports, coordinates and maintains the DDS academic programs in the School of Dentistry.
Under mínimal supervision, through the direction of the Manager Curriculum and Programs, the Academic Teaching Services Assistant Year 3-4 requires a high level of initiative, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to multi-task in a highly demanding and fast-paced environment.
This position works both independently and within a team environment to support and administer the many detailed and complex tasks associated with the DDS program.
Duties
Teaching and Learning Support and Administration
- Provides administrative support to Course Directors for Year 3 and Year 4 of the DDS program.
- Supports the development of the academic schedule
- Responsible for the request of classrooms and seminar rooms though the University's Exam and Timetabling process.
- Supports and troubleshoots the use of Zoom and other technology to support learning and examinations.
Exam Schedules and Proctoring
- Assists with the examination schedules for DDS enters data into master exam schedule
- Works within the examination software
- Coordinates computerbased examinations; proctoring; troubleshooting where required
Grades
- Builds course components in the learning management system as per the methods of assessment
- Maintains database of student grades and data compiled as required to assist Curriculum Quality Assurance Coordinator
Curriculum Management System
- Enters and maintains data in the curriculum management system
- Assists with uploads and updates course material and vodcasts for students and instructors
Learning Management System (eClass or Designated Software)
- Maintains users' access level and provides assistance and troubleshoots, where required
- Assists Faculty/Instructors with uploading educational materials
- PowerPoint presentations, pdf's, etc. assists with uploading issues, file conversions
Administrative Responsibilities
- Provides administrative support to the School of Dentistry's Associate Chair, Clinical
- Administers, coordinates, and tracks information items and correspondence on matters related to Student and Academic Services unit
- Assists with meeting schedules and prepares materials; organizes regular and adhoc meetings and provides support as needed, including agendas and background material, catering, room and equipment scheduling, etc.
