This posting is for one Temporary Full Time Child Coach (supporting age 6-12) and one Temporary Full Time Youth Coach (supporting ages Both positions are Temporary Full Time up to March 2025.


These positions align with the Social Framework and are part of a Community Safety and Well-being initiative bringing together RCMP, Enforcement Services, school divisions, Family and Community Services (FCS), and other key community stakeholders to support the lives of Strathcona County residents through coordinated and collaborative community-based supports known as Pathways for Change (P4C), the youth stream of Supportive Outreach Services.


The
P4C Child Coach
and P4C Youth Coach **are part of a team of coaches, navigators, and counsellors supporting children or youth experiencing multiple at-risk factors such as limited community attachment, behavioral challenges, school difficulties, fractured family situations and may be in need of connection and belonging.

The coach will build strong, trusting relationships that create the conditions for skill building, change and wellness.

This work focuses on supporting children or youth in their personal, recreational, social, volunteer, school and work lives as a way to create new positive pathways forward.


Services are provided using a strength based, recovery-oriented approach that recognizes the importance of meeting individuals where they are at in various environments to support a continuum of care.

Collaborative communication and information sharing, in a timely and appropriate manner, occurs with many different stakeholders. Case management is part of the role.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide individualized support to children or youth, with a special focus on wellness and community connection:

  • Build a positive, supportive and mentoring relationship with children or youth exhibiting complex and challenging behaviors
  • Advocate with and on behalf of children or youth to have their needs met in a complex and evolving system
  • Provide relational and culturally attuned care to youth from various cultures and religions and remain sensitive to the unique needs of LGBTQ+ and Indigenous identified children or youth.
  • Utilize a strength based, wholistic, recoveryorientated approach that recognizes and respects each participant's unique experiences and needs.
  • Work as part of a team with the counsellor, navigator and WrapAround partners to collectively inform and implement social support plans with specific tasks and goals. This is likely to include activitybased learning in recreational settings (indoor and outdoor). It may include accompanying children or youth to appointments and interviews.
  • Identify safety concerns, including selfharm, suicidal ideation, threats, and family violence, immediately bringing these concerns forward to the Supervisor, Counselling and Planning, or designate. With support and direction from team members, and supervisors you may develop safety plans for participants, mobilize supports and/or other interventions.
  • Meet participants, when safe to do so, in various settings. Most work will be done outside the office setting in community.
Adhere to case management practices that reflect the unique case plans of each participant:

  • Engage in regular supervision and caseload reviews with supervisor
  • Responsible for implementing actions assigned in the case plan. Seek guidance and direction on how to achieve these actions/goals under the guidance of counsellor and navigator
  • Responsible for communication with team members and ensuring information is shared in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Ensure that all documentation is completed professionally and in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate case management and statistical information in the electronic record systems, such as NewOrg.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • A strong and current understanding of evidenced based interventions/practices for complex children primarily aged 612 yrs, or youth primarily aged 1217 yrs, although those up to age 26 yrs may be served.
  • Demonstrates personal commitment identifying participants' apparent as well as underlying needs and actively seeks solutions to these.
  • Experience and understanding of complex social systems, current knowledge of resources and referral processes.
  • Communicates by effectively conveying information and expressing thoughts and facts in a clear and concise manner (both verbal and written).
  • Demonstrates adaptability by positively and readily adapting to change in the work environment; changes behaviour in response to feedback and learns from experience; functions effectively in uncertain or stressful situations and motivates others to respond constructively to change.
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to continually seeking to provide the highest quality service, including creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
