    Description

    Unit Summary

    The Behavioural Health Program is a specialized service for adults who have a diagnosis of Major Neurocognitive disorder and exhibit verbally or physically responsive behaviours. The purpose of the program is to assess and treat behaviours and discharge to a lower level of care. Referral sources include: community, hospital and Long Term Care (LTC). Program staff work collaboratively with community resources to facilitate a successful discharge. Position Summary The Occupational therapist assistant/physiotherapist assistant (OTA/PTA) functions as part of the Behavioural Health interprofessional team. The OTA/PTA assumes responsibility and accountability for the specific tasks that are assigned by the Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.Schedule Work Hours

    Monday-Friday, days. This role is temporary until September 2024.

    Qualifications
  • Graduate of post-secondary school/accredited college for Occupational Therapy Assistants and Physiotherapy Assistants (must have dual certification)
    2. Credentials with education obtained post 2011, must have received education for OT/PT assistant from an accredited program
    3. One years experience preferred
    4. Technical wheelchair skills preferred
    5. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to work in a chronic care hospital setting with an older adult patient population
    6. Current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology related to adults
    7. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including documenting in the electronic health record
    8. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interprofessional team
    9. Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including the use of optimal body mechanics during lifts, transfers and bedside treatment
    10. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and and ability to adapt communication to needs of the clinical population.
    11. Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize assigned tasks, and requests from multiple therapists.
    12. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and independently able to manage own time and complete assigned tasks.
    13. Demonstrated ability to work with patients individually or as a group
    14. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
    15. Willingness to supervise, instruct and evaluate OTA/PTA students
