Position Summary
As an integral member of the Pharmacy team serving inpatients and ambulatory care patients, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacists in the technical aspects of drug distribution within the professional practice functional area.
Duties
- Ensuring the smooth functioning of pharmacy teams on various sites
- Working under the direct supervision of the pharmacists
- Preparing both sterile and nonsterile extemporaneous products
- Participating in the training of new employees and performing other duties and responsibilities consistent with the job classification
- A registered Pharmacy technician will be able to expand on their scope of practice to costeffectively manage additional workflow
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited college level Pharmacy Technician Program or recognized equivalent required
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required
- Two years practical and related experience preferred
- Previous hospital experience with cytotoxic drug safe handling and sterile intravenous admixture service preferred
- Previous hospital experience with automation technology preferred
- Membership with a professional pharmacy association is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under mínimal supervision and to manage competing priorities/deadlines
- Ability to learn and troubleshoot changing technologies/machinery (e.g. automated dispensing cabinets)
